Felix (5th Street, #5)

by Elizabeth Reyes

Genre: NA | Contemporary Romance
Release Date: November 13, 2014

They say the only good thing about hitting rock bottom is that it can't get any worse . . . or can it?

World famous boxing champ, Felix Sanchez, had it all—the fame, the fortune, and all the women any man could ask for. When the hours of partying followed by hours spent in court and in rehab begin to outnumber the hours he spends training, losing his title comes as no surprise to everyone. The world assumes he deserved to lose it.

Only those closest to Felix know the real truth behind his sudden downward spiral. And if Felix has his way, no one else ever will. With an uncertain future ahead of him, he heads back to his roots—5th Street—the gym that started it all for him. It's where he meets the humble but mighty little Ms. Ella.

The only times Felix had ever decided to forgo the usual meaningless fling and try a real relationship he was burned badly. Now the adorable but tenacious self-defense instructor has him considering this love thing one more time.

Then just when he begins to worry that his past is letting his possessive and jaded heart get the best of him, he's blindsided in the most brutal way—he's brought to his knees—to what could be the one low in his life he may never recover from.

Book Excerpt

Felix still had his eyes fixed on the impressive "Mighty Little Ms. Ella."

For someone Hector considered typical, she hadn't done even one of the flirtatious things he was so used to from girls: the fluttering lashes, nervous laughs, or even the twirling of her hair in her fingers. She'd looked him square in the eyes without losing her poise even for a second.

Character Guest Post

Hello everyone! My name is Elizabeth Reyes and the good folks from Toot's Book Reviews have invited me onto their blog to do a special interview of one of my characters. So without further ado please help me welcome the hero from my latest Fighter Romance novel in my 5th Street series, Felix so that we can get right to the questions!

*Stands and claps as Felix makes his enormous entrance.*

*Fanning self* "Oh Geez I'd forgotten what an entrance you make!"

Felix smiles taking a seat after he leans and hugs me. *Swoon!*

Clearing my throat I get it together so I look as calm and cools as ever.  "So Felix enquiring minds want to know more about you. Let's start with the first question."

Can you tell the new and old fans about your boxing career?

"That's kind of a loaded question," he says with a breathtaking smile. "But I'll give it shot. Like the rest of the gang I started off at 5th Street where the late founder, dear friend, and father figure to me Jack taught me everything I know about boxing. Immediately he saw something in me and knew I had a knack for this. He set me up against some up and coming boxers and before you knew it, there were some big names lining up to fight me." He pauses as if to reflect on that then goes on. "The rest happened so fast. I won my first big title when I was just a teen and then it just snowballed. I had some uh... personal issues down the road and made some mistakes I've learned from. But it did cost me my title. I cost me more than just my title but I'd rather not talk about all that. All I can say is I'm confident that I'll get back on track soon enough."

"Okay," I say as he obviously is done with that one. "Good to know. Let's move on to the next question."

Tell us about 5th Street and your ties to the Gym?

"Jack was a single man with no family. 5th Street is what he lived for and the people there were his family. Particularly the five of us. Noah, Gio, Hector, Abel and myself. So when he passed he left it to us. A tragic accident took his life and nearly took his legacy and everything he'd done with the gym too. Only fortunately because of him I was in a place financially where I could give back everything that gym gave me. So now that's it's been rebuilt, me and the guys own and run the place. Though I have to admit because of my career, I'm not there nearly as much as they are."

I smile feeling a little bittersweet as I remember Jack. But decide not to go there and bring him down. Felix already seems a little down just mentioning Jack.

"I'm sure all the fans of 5th Street are also very thankful that you were able to help with the rebuilding of 5th Street."

Unable to help myself I reach over to squeeze his forearm and I'm blown away by just how big and hard it is. I clear my throat and once again force myself to get it together.

"The fans are also interested in something else that brings me to my next question."

What does your typical Gym training routine incorporate?

"Wow, ' he smiles as I try to keep my eyes on his face and not those massive arms and shoulders. " Another loaded question but I'll see how I can explain this. First of all there is no such thing as a typical routine. When I'm in training every day is different. Some days I work on my cardio, other days I spend more time in the weight rooms or on the bags. We have entire days of sparring. It just all depends on what my trainer has in store. They usually map out my schedule ahead of time so I at least have an idea what my week looks like but there is no such thing as typical routine for me."

I nod trying to shake the visuals of a shirtless Felix working out while all his muscles bulge. This time I take a sip of my water instead of clearing my throat again before he asks if something's wrong.

"I've heard Noah, and Gio are considered to be the dream team of trainers so I can imagine how grueling those workouts must be."

He laughs as I command my heart to be still! "Yeah, they don't take it easy on me that's for sure. But it's totally worth it."

My eyes do a once over on all parts of his body that have certainly gotten their share of those totally worth it work outs. But I bring my eyes back to my notes and move onto the next question before I embarrass myself.

Okay, Felix lastly. What are 5 things fans don't know about you?

There's an instant change in his demeanor and it has me squirming for a moment.

"I uh," he begins but then seems to catch himself. "Well there are a couple of things I know for sure the fans don't know about me but those are covered in the book so they'll have to wait for that. But let's see." He rubs that stubborn and very sexy chin. "Five huh? Oh I know. Something your readers might get a kick out of.  I have a library in my home. Not just a corner with some shelves either. A full blown room with a double door entry and wall to wall, floor to ceiling shelves full of books."

"Oh I think they'll love that!" I say smiling big. "So you read a lot?"

"Not as often and anyone who see's that room might think but I do enjoy a good read every now and again when I get a chance to."

I make a note of that as he goes on to the next thing fans might not know about him.

"I was nearly initiated into a gang. But thankfully I met Jack in time and he literally knocked some sense into me," he laughs. "He knocked sense into all of us."

I smile thanking Jack inwardly. What a shame if these guys had all gone down the wrong path instead of joining 5th Street.

"Three more things right?" he asks then holds a finger up. "I've made several cameo's in music videos.," He lifts a second finger. "I have twin brothers. "He lifts up a third finger. "I make kick ass  breakfast burritos."

That last one makes me laugh. "Alright I  know I said that was the last question but real quick. What do you put in your kick ass breakfast burritos?"

"The usual stuff. Eggs, sausage, potatoes bacon, cheese but it's my secret ingredient that I can't share with you that makes them so kick ass."

"I see,"  I say trying to imagine what that could be. Probably some special homemade salsa. Hmm.

"Thank you, Felix for coming here and answering all our questions so candidly! And thank you Toot's Book Reviews for your interest in Felix!"
