Hot For His Hostage
(The WILD Boys Of Special Forces, #6)
by Angel Payne

It’s the layover she’ll never forget.

Stuck in an airport bar with a choice between three drunk roommates or one dark and delicious stranger, Zoe Chestain decides to live dangerously for once, and succumbs to a night of Shay Bommer’s dominant passion. But her cloud of sensual bliss is blown apart the next day, when the Vegas dancer and her friends are taken hostage by the hijackers of their flight home. Zoe’s horror deepens when her kidnapper reveals himself. Shay.

It’s the mission he’ll never give up.

Shay Bommer is one of the Army’s best, a Special Forces soldier who followed in the footsteps of his brother knowing infiltration with the enemy would sometimes be necessary. But this operation, deep under cover with one of the CIA’s most sought-after criminals, has cost him more than the trust of the most breathtaking submissive he’s ever had in his arms. He’s given up the camaraderie of his unit, the protection of his country, and even the esteem of his brother in the quest to rescue one priceless treasure. His mother.

Can they turn “never” into forever?

Zoe’s danced to some crazy songs in her time, but no wild choreography has prepared her for the adventure of life with Shay—or the return to his bed that means surrendering more than just her body. As they run from the bad guys, the good guys, and everyone in between, she learns about the man behind all his masks, and the Dominant for whom she’s always longed.

When Shay honors his word and unlocks her bonds for good, Zoe must face the truth—that her heart will always be Shay’s willing captive. But staying with him means dying with him. The heat is on. Can Shay and Zoe’s love survive the flames?

Interview

Hi Angel,
*Jumps up and down in my seat* Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview.

*Jumps up and down in return* Ohmygosh, I am SO happy to be here, hon! I remember the first moment I met you, and loving you and your adorable shoes. And now here we are, dancing on the couch together!!

Love my chucks!!! Although it took awhile to clean out all that sand from walking on the beach with you, Kallypso Masters and her Beta Riders, bahahahahah. Oh wait, I'm supposed to be doing an interview with you girl, let's put the drinks down and do this thing ...... dang! Ok back to the interview.

You know we’re crazy for you here and your WILD boys *wink*. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your series, The WILD Boys Of Special Forces, your new book, Hot For His Hostage, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

So first off, your newest book is part of your series, The WILD Boys Of Special Forces. Let's talk about the series as a whole....

In your own words, what is The WILD Boys Of Special Forces series about?

Well, “WILD” is actually an acronym standing for “Warriors Intense in Love and Domination.” To elaborate, these are men of character, honor, and courage who fight hard and love harder. They are dedicated and passionate about their country and their women.

What inspired the series?

Okay, this is a funny story. A few years ago, I actually did a little role playing in a group supporting a good author friend of mine who writes a very popular high-heat romance series. I started out playing a woman but they really needed someone to fill in the role of one of the guys, who happened to be a Navy SEAL. I knew NOTHING about the SEALs at that time, so being an OCD-perfectionist Virgo, I started extensive research—and simply fell in love. The men who engage in Special Operations work for our country are beyond impressive. It’s a level of courage and commitment that spoke to my heart and really moved me.

What are some of the elements of the world you created?

Unwittingly, I think the best ingredients for the WILD Boys pie are a lot of passion and a lot of lust mixed in with a ton of old-fashioned bromance and over-the-top action. Though I’m pretty much a horndog and think about sex a lot, I also love the passion behind cool “guy” shit like explosions and gun battles and chasing the bad guys. I know parts of the books always get a few eye rolls, but c’mon, how many times have you rolled your eyes at some mess Jack Bauer or Jack Reacher get themselves into—and then later, say, “Hell. That was pretty cool.” And for the record, I don’t think I can ever write a hero named Jack because I worship both those characters too much.

If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created for your series?

Undoubtedly, the characters. I’m so proud of all of them for overcoming their obstacles and fears to find true love.

Can you tell us a bit about the newest book in the series, Hot For His Hostage?

Well, it’s one hell of a wild ride, that’s for sure! The “elevator speech” is: Dom meets the sub of his dreams, only to say goodbye—or so he thinks. Fate has other plans when he goes undercover with the bad guys to hijack a plane, and learns she’s part of the flight manifest.

How did you come up with the title of your newest book in the series and can you tell us its significance?

I’m working on plots for books about 2 to 3 stories out—so Shay and Zoe’s story was brewing when I wrote Zoe into the plot of Surrendering To Her Sergeant. I knew that in Wet For Her Warriors, everyone would meet Shay and know something was definitely “up” with him. I also knew Zoe would be his unwitting hostage in some way. But the conundrum for them, and really for ALL the Boys in general, is that while it LOOKS like he’s the guy in charge, she’s the one actually pulling the rug of his heart out from under him.

How does the new book, Hot For His Hostage, fit into the series?

As everyone likely knows, it’s number 6 in the series—and was a delight to write because everyone gets to revisit with most of the guys from the first 5 books, too! It’s the set-up for book 6.5, which will be a novella called A W.I.L.D.er Kind of Love, and then going on to book 7, Secrets From Her Sirs. Right now, I’m only planning 8 books in the series—though that could always change if the WILD love unexpectedly swells.

What genre would you say Hot For His Hostage is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?

I like to call it “high heat romance.” On Amazon or other e-reading sites, you’ll find it under categories of erotic romance, as well as alpha men and military romance. I’d like to think that it busts a bit beyond those categories, though. I don’t stick to strictly “military” themes in the books. The stories are big and sweeping , very often taking the boys to “off the books” or black ops status on their missions to rid the world of nasty asshats.

What was your favorite scene to write in Hot For His Hostage?

Believe it or not, the very last one! As I wrote it, I kept thinking of the final scene in the Shirley Temple movie, The Little Princess, where Sara is shaking her dad, trying to make him wake up from his grief and see her again. I sobbed every time I watched that movie! And yes, I bawled while writing the exchange between Shay and Zoe, too.

What was the hardest scene to write for Hot For His Hostage?

Undoubtedly when Zoe, Tait, and the rest of the guys find out where Cameron Stock has been holding Shay, and go to rescue him. Having to envision the evidence that Shay has been tortured, and then write about it, was really wrenching.

What is your favorite line or quote from Hot For His Hostage?
I have to pick ONE? LOL! The one that stands out the most for me, in remembering the whole book, is the scene when Shay and Zoe reunite in the shower, but he’s literally been stitched back together after his ordeal in Stock’s clutches. For this big, alpha Dom to let his woman see him in a less-than-perfect physical state…it wrenches him! But then Zoe starts to touch him and whispers, “Shay…you’re beautiful.” That power she had, to heal his inner wounds by accepting his outer ones, was one of the best treats this couple gave me.

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I’ve written stories my entire life. I was even making up stories before I could read, creating little plots with my “pretend” friends as a toddler. When I hit puberty and hormones kicked in, it got really fun; LOL. I never believed it would be more than a hobby, however, until I was in college and took departmental honors in English when graduating from Chapman University. My professors kept telling me to come back once I had a copy of my first novel for them. I thought they were nuts. I just wanted to be an MTV veejay. Or Madonna.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

What DOESN’T inspire me?? I drive down the street, see something on the side of a truck, and get a story idea. Characters and stories are flying through all the time. It’s nailing myself down to one at a time that’s the bitch…LOL.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

It always starts with character. And inevitably, with the hero. I go with a man who takes my breath away and build on there. The heroine has to be strong enough to match up with that.

Are you a Plotter or a Pantser?

A bit of both. I always have the entire “skeleton” of the story, as well as all the characters and where they will be taken in terms of their emotional journeys, first. I really have to know what their obstacles are and how they will overcome them by the end of the book. The “guts” happen more organically, and come during the creation, as the characters take on personalities and inner lives on their own.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

I was first published as Annee Cartier, a variation on my real name, back in the mid 1990’s. I sold 5 historical romances to Kensington and also to Dell. Now that I’ve gotten the rights back on those books, I’ve re-branded them as the Lords of Sin series, and am excited to be re-editing and re-releasing them as Angel Payne. As a matter of fact, I just re-released one of my favorites, Redemption—A Victorian Vampire Love Story. (Yes, just in time to get your “fangs” whetted for the release of Dracula Untold!)

What's next for you?

I’m currently working with Victoria Blue on our 2nd book in the Secrets of Stone series, No More Masquerade, being released on November 4th. To say that this book has a few “OMG” moments is a vast understatement! After that, I’ll be penning a novella for a box set with some friends featuring—wait for it!—paranormal firemen! And then in early 2015: the first book of a brand-new series set in a fictional modern-day kingdom, with a lot of emotional intensity. Just wait until you meet Evrest Cimarron, the hero for the Cimarron Saga. He’s sure taking up a lot of my imagination lately…

Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

Just a simple and heartfelt THANK YOU for ALL of the support and love!

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

Ohhhh…I so cannot go there! LOL! To be honest, I have two consuming my brain right now. Killian Stone is definitely dancing around in there quite a bit, since I’m working on the next section of his story now. Keeping up with him is Evrest Cimarron, the hero for my Cimarron Saga. This man is LAYERS deep. He looks like Daniel DiTomasso, kisses like Edward Cullen, is built like the mountain his name evokes…and completely sweeps documentarian Mia Tremaine off her feet.

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

Funny that you ask that! The re-released historical, Redemption, definitely means a lot to me. Its inspiration was the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Phantom of the Opera, which remains one of my favorites to this day. Tormented heroes are just sooooo my thing, and I pulled out all the stops to write Marcus Stafford.

And not to beat a horse (LOL), but I have to relay how excited I am about the new Cimarron books. They are going to focus a great deal on high emotion and human drama, set against the glamorous worlds of modern-day New York as well as Evrest’s fictional island kingdom—so get prepared for lots of fashion and shoe porn in addition to the passion and drama.

If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?
Ohhhh dahhhhhhling…I used to be in the music industry! I cannot choose just one song! But if you want a bit of deeper insight into the musical inspirations for the books, go check out my WILD Boys Mix on Spotify!

Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the series?

About me:
  1. Barry Manilow songs make me bawl.
  2. I have very weird toes. If you ever meet me, I’ll show you.
  3. I’m quite certain I lived in Paris, France in another life. It’s my favorite city in the world.
  4. On that subject: I LOVE eating stinky French cheese. The longer it’s been sitting in some cave gathering mold, the better I dig it.
  5. The first time I made out with a boy was on the Monsanto “Adventure Into Inner Space” ride at Disneyland.
About the Series:
  1. I have up to 15 books plotted, but plan on writing only 10 at this point. Who knows what the future holds?
  2. Those extra 5 books may just involve a few hot Marines…
  3. A wedding on the beach at Lani, Tait, and Kell’s place in Kaua’i may be in the future…
  4. All the babies in the series haven’t been born yet.
  5. President Nichols is definitely going to need the Boys’ help again, too.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it – Sincerely, Toot

Mmmmwwaahhh, sweetie! *Hugging you*! Thank you for letting me stop by!!

Author Info

Hi there. I’m Angel: book lover, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek, shoe addict, coffee-aholic, and super hero nut.

I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it all got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances—-the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer-type manliness around, didn’t assuage the need for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I was doomed, though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, and a very bad try at a Young Adult novel (don’t ask; it’s not pretty).

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.
