Book Blurb
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Layla is half demon and half warden. She was taken by Abbot when she was a child and raised with the wardens. She is special in that she can see the soul that a person has. She is able to spot a demon that doesn’t have one. Her job has been tagging demons since she was thirteen. She tags them and the wardens send them back to Hell.
She has really never fit in and her feelings for Zayne have been changing. They grew up together, but she knows that nothing can come of her feelings. She could suck out his soul if she kissed him. Besides Abbot doesn’t want Zayne mated to someone like her.
When a higher level demon shows up and saves her, she is surprised. You can’t trust a demon. Of course, the same demon shows up in her biology class at school. He informs her that demons will be looking for her. She could be the catalyst for the apocalypse. Her life is threatened, her loyalty is questioned and her world is turned upside down when the truth of her parents is revealed. She has to also embrace both sides of herself in order to survive.
I loved this book. It was full of battles, adventure, life changing secrets, and good vs. evil. The storyline was unique and a different spin on the fight against evil theme. The Wardens are chosen to fight against demons, protecting the humans. The author threaded bigotry throughout the story in an ingenious way. The wardens refused to believe that a demon could help Layla. Of course Roth proved them wrong. He was an exciting character that you weren’t quite sure what his motivation was or exactly what he was trying to do. I was constantly trying to figure out if he was truly helping Layla or playing her.
There were instances in the story where I felt sorry for her. She was lonely and the wardens really didn’t know what to do with her. There were times that I actually teared up as I read the scene. Layla’s sadness and pain clearly came across through the author’s words. This book was awesome from start to finish. I give it a 5 out of 5.
