Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
In the first book of the Electi Series, Teagan Matthews is studying art in New York. Her life is going well as she likes her school and she and Jason have been dating for two years. She knows she is lucky in more than one way and is happy. Of course, nothing stays the same and her world is thrown into a tailspin.
She wakes up one morning to learn that Jason has just disappeared without a trace. No one knows where he is or if he is alive. Teagan pretty much shuts down and her life falls apart. She can’t handle school or anything else she was doing. She moves in with her parents and sinks into despair.
Nine months later she needs a change. She can’t live with her parents anymore. So when her grandmother has another fall and needs help, Teagan talks her mother into letting her stay. Teagan quickly finds a job when she gets to the famed Salem, and meets new people. She even makes a new friend in Lark the owner of the Art Gallery in town.
However things start to get strange. She and Lark discover a dead body. Teagan thinks she sees Jason and Seth seems to be everywhere she turns. Then she learns the family secrets and her life will never be the same. The information she learns throws her into a world she never dreamed she would be a part of.
I have read this author before and wanted to take a look at this new series. It is an exciting storyline about witches and I was pulled in by the first page. You feel sorry for Teagan when she learns about Jason. It is devastating and her withdrawal from the world makes sense.
The characters she meets once she gets to Salem provide mystery and solace for her. The air of mystery surrounds her and she knows people are hiding things.
I really liked Teagan in the beginning as she lost her love and started pulling her life back together. However as the story progressed I became annoyed with her behavior. She came across as a fifteen year old drama queen instead of the twenty one year old she was supposed to be. She seemed to be always running away while throwing a hissy fit when things happened that overwhelmed her.
I liked the storyline and the plot, but I hope the author writes Teagan in a more mature light in the coming books. I give it a 3 out of 5.
