Already regretting my decision to call Dex in the first place, I keep my distance for the remainder of the night, allowing him to have fun with his friends. He doesn’t engage me very much, only telling me even more that he wishes I wouldn’t have invaded his perfect life. By the time we go to bed, we venture into the room that is reserved for the two of us. I guess when you come with so many couples, it negates the whole guys in this room, girls in the other equation.
I escape into the bathroom and change my clothes. By the time I return, Dex is already in his pajama pants, digging in his bag. He drops his phone and bends down to retrieve it. As he steadily stands back up, his eyes roam up my body and a warm current in my blood swirls, following the path of his eyes. He bites his bottom lip and takes a deep breath. “I’ll be back,” he says with a husky voice.
Once he rushes out, I climb under the covers to disengage any sexual urges neither one of us will entertain tonight. In this moment, I wish I could be one of those girls. The ones who could sleep with Dex only to feel the comforting arms of a man, but it’s the fear of after that keeps my hands pinned around my body. The fear that he would sleep with me out of pity, or worse, that he would only do it for his own pleasure and release.
He opens the door, and his blue eyes focus on the television and anywhere but at me. “I’ll sleep on the floor,” he murmurs, never casting a glance my way.
“Don’t be silly. We’ve done this before.” I flip to my side.
“When we were fourteen, Chris.” He grabs the pillow.
“Really, Dex. I trust you,” I tell him, facing him head on, and oh my lord, his muscles are everywhere. He’s always been built, but holy mackerole, he’s insanely big now.
He looks at me long and hard for a few seconds and then pulls back the covers. As he’s sliding under the crisp white linen sheets, the mattress dips next to me. I turn around so my back faces his. We both reach over and turn off the lights on our respective sides. The funny thing is if someone walked in right now, they’d think we were two elderly people, who have been married for years, instead of hot-blooded early twenty-something’s.
Minutes of silence fill the room, and even with me shutting my eyes, visualizing what I imagine the beach must feel like, sleep won’t come. Dex’s close proximity has my body hyperaware of his breathing and his body. “Do you want to tell me?” he whispers.
“I’m okay. Like I said, I just needed a break. Thank you for bringing me. I hope I wasn’t too much of an inconvenience for you,” I lie, and a huge breath releases from him.
“You’re never an inconvenience to me. If you don’t tell me, I can’t help you,” he adds, and I roll over, although, he keeps his back to me.
“Nothing. Like I said I needed a breather.” If I admit to Dex the real reason, he’ll try to fix it and save me like normal. Being here with his friends and the people that care about him, he deserves normality and that’s not in my life’s course.
My hands itch to touch the grooves and contours of the muscles that spread across his back, displaying how hard he works out at the gym every day. “Just wanted to feel normal. So, thank you again.” The lies just continue to flow. He doesn’t need my drama in his life. He has his together, why should my fucked-up past screw with it?
The pillow shifts from the slow shake of his head. “You’re welcome,” he says, and the silence encompasses us once again. Eventually, the light whistling of his breathing signifies he’s fallen asleep. I lie awake, observing the rise and fall of his back until my eyes relent to the exhaustion of the day.

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your series, The Invisibles, your new book, Can’t Let Go, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.
So first off, your newest book is part of your series, The Invisibles. Let's talk about the series as a whole....
In your own words, what is The Invisibles series about?
If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created for your series?
What was the hardest scene to write for Can’t Let Go?
Michelle moved around the Midwest most of her life, transferring from school to school before settling down in the outskirts of Chicago ten years ago, where she now resides with her husband and two kids. She developed a love of reading at a young age, which helped lay the foundation for her passion to write. With the encouragement of her family, she finally sat down and wrote one of the many stories that have been floating around in her head. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can be found playing with her kids, talking to her mom on the phone, or hanging out with her family and friends. But after chasing around twin preschoolers all day, she always cherishes her relaxation time after putting the kids to bed.

Hi Michelle,
Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your series, The Invisibles, your new book, Can’t Let Go, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.
So first off, your newest book is part of your series, The Invisibles. Let's talk about the series as a whole....
In your own words, what is The Invisibles series about?
The Invisibles are a band of college guys that attend Western University. Each book contains one member and their journey to love.
What inspired the series?
What inspired the series?
When I first started to write Don’t Let Go (Book #1), some of it came from personal experience. I wanted opposites attract, but they come to realize they aren’t so opposite, it’s just outward appearances that perceived it that way. Enter Brady Carsen and Sadie Miller.
What are some of the elements of the world you created?

I try to stay true to college life (at least similar to my experiences), although some parts remain fictional because my characters are in their senior year in book one. It’s a time when I feel college students are looking into their future and attempting to find someone to share it with while still fulfilling their carefree days.
If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created for your series?
That’s an easy one—friendships. Not only the guys from the band are close, but the girls they fall in love with also bond together. Which makes them a group that cherish the friendships they have and seem to become closer with every book.

Can’t Let Go is Dex Prescott’s book. He’s the bass player of The Invisibles that remains the most quiet and probably secretive than the others. He has dodged in and out in the previous three books not revealing much about himself. When a childhood friend, Chrissy Hanson, comes back in his life, things start to change for Dex.
How did you come up with the title of your newest book in the series and can you tell us its significance?

Every title in The Invisibles Series is a three word. Can’t Let Go was easy for Dex, because he’s always struggled to let go of Chrissy. When he gets a second chance with her reappearance four years after they were separated, he knows he’ll never let her go.

As I mentioned, it’s the fourth of the series. Dex Prescott’s story. It’s the first in the series where the characters knew each other before hand. All others in the series, the couple meets unexpectedly.

The Invisibles Series as a whole is Contemporary New Adult.
What was your favorite scene to write in Can’t Let Go?

What was the hardest scene to write for Can’t Let Go?
Hardest was the beginning. The book starts with Dex and Chrissy at eight and moves forward every two years until present day. It’s hard to not only go back that many years, but then try to word it how a child of that age would think or say.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
Writing.......
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
I loved reading since I was little and always dreamed of writing my own. Have a few from a young age that never amounted to anything. Not sure why, but I never truly pursued it. Then my husband bought me a kindle after he rolled over one night and I had a flashlight rested in my chin while reading a book. I started getting recommendations from Amazon on what I may like, and noticed a lot were self-published. So, I decided I would write my book, not really knowing what would happen when I was finished. I did no research, knew nothing about book blogs, or Facebook until after I hit publish.
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
It’s hard to describe. I’ll be sitting there talking to someone and bam, my mind will wonder. Unfortunately, it leaves the conversation currently taking place. Either it’s something they said that triggered, or I observe other people and think what if? Eventually, it just consistently overtakes every thought while I’m in the shower, making dinner, or driving until I can work it out.
What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

Music used to be it for me and still is a little, but I need to move away from the computer. Clean my house, fold laundry, anything that I can do without thinking too much, in order to let the characters, or story unfold in mind.
Are you a Plotter or a Panster?

My first three books I was a complete panster. I tried to be more of a plotter, but the most I’m able to plan out is a loose storyline. Mostly, I still go panster, but try to at least have a general idea of where I want it to go.

What's next for you?
I’m working on a triplet novella with my good friends, Danielle Allen and Melissa Rolka. We each took a triplet and wrote a novella for them. That releases 9/15. Then I’m working on Find Me Love (The Basso Brothers #2) and then I’ll tackle the last book in The Invisibles Series, Let Me Go.

Thank you! I mean that from the deepest part of my heart because I still can’t believe how lucky I am to have faithful fans that love my stories as much as I do. I love it when they contact me and ask me questions or tell me how much they loved one particular part. The fact they are just as invested as me, always brings a smile to my face.

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?
Hmm…that is so hard because I honestly love each one. Each set of my couples have different adversities to overcome which makes them special to me. Sorry, I just can’t choose, I could list the reasons why I love each one of them, but I can’t choose!!
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Maddy Jennings and Gabe and Trent Basso from my first book Love Me Back. I wrote that book not thinking about what’s selling, or second guessing how some people don’t like love triangles, or not making my heroine too needy. I feel as though a lot of people can relate to the story because it’s about growing up and finding out who you are supposed to love might not be who you love.
If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?

Hard one! “Favorite Girl” by Icarus Account. Because I think all the guys get smack with a two by four when their girl comes into their lives, making them think of nothing but her!

1. I have twins (boy/girl)
2. My degree is in Social Work
3. I moved around most of my life going to 9 different schools
4. I was fully addicted to Diet Coke until a month ago

2. The Loft is a real bar in Kent that I hung out at every weekend.
