Review : Nash (Marked Men #4) by Jay Crownover (NA)

Book Blurb

Will their past determine their future?

Saint Ford has worked hard to achieve her childhood dream of becoming of nurse. Focused on her work and devoted to her patients, there’s no room for love. She doesn’t need a guy making waves in her calm, serene life—especially when he’s the unforgettable hottie who nearly destroyed her in high school. Dark, brooding Nash Donovan might not remember her or the terrible pain he caused. But he turned her world upside down... and now he’s trying to do it again.

Saint has no idea that Nash isn’t the cocky player he once was. Uncovering a devastating family secret has rocked his world, and now he’s struggling to figure out his future. He can’t be distracted by the pretty nurse he seems to meet everywhere. Still, he can’t ignore the sparks that fly between them —or how she seems so desperate to get away from him. But the funny, sweet, and drop-dead gorgeous Saint is far too amazing to give up on—especially since she’s the only thing in his life that seems to make sense.

When Nash discovers the truth about their past, he realizes he may have lost her heart before he could even fight for it. Now, Saint has to decide: is Nash worth risking herself for all over again?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Nash is devastated when he learns that Phil has cancer. Phil is the rock in his life and has always been there for him and his friends. Then it’s revealed that Phil is actually his father, Nash is sent into a tailspin from his shock. No one told him. On top of that he comes face to face with Saint each time he is at the hospital and doesn’t understand why she hates him.

Nash’s world is out of control and he holes up in his apartment swimming in his self pity ignoring his friends. Saint knows he will regret losing this time, so she puts her feelings of distrust aside and tries to pull Nash out of his haze of misery. He shares a drunken kiss with her. She is shocked at his actions and causes her to question everything. Her fears are at the forefront of her mind.

The closer Nash and Saint seem to get the harder she fights to protect herself. She is so afraid of getting hurt she can’t trust the relationship that is developing but she finds herself more and more drawn to him.

Nash discovers what happened in the past with Saint and how wonderful she really is. He worries he will never be able to get passed the thoughts she has of his teenage self. Then when he figures out he isn’t fighting a younger image of himself but Saint’s thoughts of herself, the fight truly begins. Nash is unsure if he can win against her low self-esteem. The relationship may be over before it ever gets started.

This is book four in the Marked Series. I have read all four of them so far and loved every one of them. The author has developed a cast of characters that are fast becoming one of my favorite groups. They are cool, edgy and loyal to each other. Everyone deserves friends like them.

The trials and tribulations they have to overcome just make them stronger as individuals and as a unit. They come across as very real people dealing with real life and nothing is perfect including relationships with those close to them.

Nash’s story is full of tricky relationships and shocking secrets that alter his life forever. The reader immediately roots for him, knowing what he has been through. Saint was more neurotic to the point of annoying at times. She really does a number on herself. Of course it is revealed that her mom may have started her on the path of low self-esteem. With the families these two have had it is a wonder they are functioning.

Jay Crownover works her magic on another great story and I can’t wait for Rowdy’s story. I give it a 5 out of 5.
