Vampires exist among us. They can be our neighbor, best friend, our child's teacher ...

They alter their aged appearance based upon the amount of blood they consume. They move to a new area, drink a lot of blood, and appear young. Slowly they limit their intake of blood and age, right in front of our unsuspecting eyes. After decades, they fake their death, move, and do it over and over again.

Most live quiet lives in an effort to blend in.

Some however want power and control.

The Colony is an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States from these rogue vampires.

When Raymond Metcalf, vampire coven master of the Colony, teams up with a federal operative of the human female persuasion–who has no idea that vampires even exist–will his mission or his heart be compromised first?

Career military woman, Alex Brennan, is being offered the promotion of a lifetime and with it a romance that she has desperately been seeking. Does she dare accept the position as Director of the Colony, an elite group of deadly creatures of the night and risk a dangerous romance with a man who isn’t even human?

Toot's Review by Stephanie Silva

In the first book of a series, Regina introduces us to the life of the Security services that protects the USA president. One would say it will be full of conspirators, threatens and those types of things. Well, you are just partially right. The president is protected by the best of the best but that doesn’t just apply to humans. He has his own vampire security team that help keep balance and stop any threats of their kind to the humans, especially the president and his team.

This is a story of action, drama, comedy and quite a touch of romance in which the new director of the human team, Alexandra, and their connection to the vampire team gets more than interested in the head of the vampire team, Raymond.

The problem?

Her career is very important to her but he current position can just be given to a human so asking Raymond to change her is out of the question. Also, Raymond doesn’t believe he is quite ready to move on, especially when the woman that has captured his attention is his superior.

I have to say I have always loved a novel that mixes action with romance. There is something about a handsome alpha hero that tries to protect a woman *laughs* even when she is an independent creature that could totally kick his ass or give him a piece of her mind. This novel has some of that. I must say it isn’t really what I was expecting. Like I said, I was expecting the hero to be more alpha like it is so common nowadays because it makes plenty of ladies sigh and swoon but what I got is a handsome and protective gentleman, Raymond. It is rare to see one of those lately but even though he radiated an aura of ignorance when it comes to the matter of the heart I was not disappointed. He is a character that you really can’t get mad at. On the other hand, I must admit there were times when I wanted to shout at Alex for flirting to obviously with him. Honestly, I felt she was a little too desperate and the fact that the whole team but Raymond notices was kind of embarrassing.

Moving on to the good things, I loved the manners that some of the characters displayed. Lately, that has been lost so it was a breath of fresh air. I also had a good laugh at some points of the story. It was different to what I usually read but I have to say that reading something new do have some advantages.
