“My girl still wants me. Halle-fucking-lujah.” Sam groaned. His voice dropped two octaves to a rough bass that made her womb quiver. “Jesus, I missed you.”
“Missed you, too.” Emma nodded. “Show me.” Her heart thrummed in her ears and her breath caught in her throat. She wanted him for the rest of her life. She dropped her hand from her breasts and guided him to her soaked cut off shorts. She should’ve felt exposed. Instead, she felt complete. “Right here, right now, Sam.”
Sam ripped the t-shirt up over his head, giving Emma teasing glances of the chiseled muscles of his chest. Her gaze followed the thin trail of crisp mahogany hair that disappeared below his belt to where the true pleasure lay trapped. Emma moved her knees, her hands sliding down her torso until she hooked her fingers into her waistband.
“That’s right, baby.” Sam tossed the discarded garments onto the floor. “I want to see all of you.”
Emma shrugged out of his shirt. The brisk air in the bedroom kissed her dewy skin. She fumbled with the zipper on her shorts. Sam grasped the frayed edge of her shorts and pulled. The scream of ripping denim ricocheted through the room. “No bottoms?” Sam crawled along her body and planted his knees on either side of her hips. He cupped her chin and nibbled her ear. “You shaved.”
Emma threaded one arm around his neck and spoke against his lips. “I like being bare.”
“I like you bare.” He took both her hands in one of his and arranged her on the bed. “You’re so wet.” His gaze seared her. “For me.”
“Sam?” Her heart pounded. “Make love to me, Sam. With Quint watching.” She held her breath. She’d known about Sam and Quint’s involvement for quite a while and she liked Quint. More than she should’ve. He’d hovered in her life for the past six months and become a fixture in most things she did. With him out of the room, things felt off. Yes, she loved her husband, but she loved Quint, too.
“I want Quint to watch,” she whispered. “I do.”
“Quint?” Sam dragged his fingers over her pussy lips. “You’re sure?”
“More than ever. He’s your lover, too. Why would I count him out?”

Hi Wendi,
Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your new book, Best I Ever Had and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.
So first off, Best I Ever Had Questions.......
In your own words, what is Best I Ever Had about?
The coming together of three people who always had a bond, but never really took the time to forge it before circumstances forced them to.
How did you come up with the title of the book and can you tell us its significance?
Well, first, it’s a nod to country music star Gary Allan. He’s got a song with the same title. Now, he didn’t write the song, but the haunting quality of the song as well as the rough way he sings the song made me think about the characters. The other part of the equation is the best part. Sometimes the best isn’t one thing, it’s multiple things. That’s another facet of Best I Ever Had. The characters have to decide if the best is one thing or more than one and enjoying the journey to discovery.
Is Best I Ever Had a standalone book or will it be part of a series?
It’s actually part of a loose series. I wrote Best I Ever Had first as a very short story—like a one thousand word short story. Then I added the character of Blaine, who is Emma’s (the heroine) brother for his own story, Saturday Night Special. I had readers ask me what brought Emma and Sam (one of our heroes) together, so I wrote Simply the Best last. I’m debating writing a sequel to Best I Ever Had, but the characters aren’t talking yet, so I’m not rushing them.
What genre would you say Best I Ever Had is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?
It’s contemporary erotic ménage. What sets it apart? Hmm... well, there are elements of male-male love involved in the story. Some ménages don’t have that. It’s also got a lot of understanding involved. The biggest thing I believe that sets it apart from other contemporary ménages is that there is a nod to racing. I’m an avid fan of racing and while this story isn’t saturated with motor racing, there is a tiny element involved. I think that’s the extra little piece of me in the story.
What are some of the elements of the world you created?
It’s in a suburb of Cleveland, but I got the chance to make up what I wanted that suburb to look like. I enjoy small towns. There’s something about a small town with everyone knowing everything about you no matter what you do. I ran with that close-knit part. Sam, Emma and Quint can’t do much without everyone knowing their business.
I also included a bit of crime in the story. There isn’t anywhere I’ve ever lived that’s completely crime free and even the smallest incidents—like getting a pint of ice cream from the store—can end up being very significant later on.
If you had to pick one thing, what is your favorite thing about the world you’ve created?
Emma. She’s my favorite. Why? Because she’s fearless, even when she should have fear. She’s willing to stand up to Sam and Quint in order to get what she wants. I also liked that she’s a librarian. You never know what those librarians do during their free time. Grin.
What was your favorite scene to write for either your hero or heroine in Best I Ever Had?
The scene in which Quint is finally allowed to be in the bedroom with Sam and Emma. Emma is the one who takes the lead and I loved allowing her to have the balls in the situation. She shows just how strong she is.
What was the hardest scene to write?
The ending. I’m horrible with endings and beginnings. I either know exactly how I want the ending and beginning to go or I’m stuck and I end up driving my editor nuts. Good thing my editor loves me.
What's your favorite line or quote from Best I Ever Had?
“And you’re really loud when you don’t think I can hear you having sex.” ~ Emma
She’s coming clean about having played the voyeur when Sam and Quint were fooling around. The power in her words as well as the shock in their reactions was priceless.
Writing.......
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
I’ve always liked writing. It was something I could do and do well. I started writing lesson plans, but the creativity in that wasn’t that exciting to me. What got me on the road to becoming published was a Harlequin book. I didn’t like the ending or the way the characters were involved in a sport but did more dancing around the sport that talk about it, so I wrote my own. It wasn’t fan fiction because I didn’t use any of the characters from the book. I used my own characters and situations. I realized I really liked writing, so I kept at it and eight years on, I’m still doing it.
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
The characters. I can have a situation that’s great, but if the characters don’t speak to me then I can’t do anything with it. If I have interesting characters, then the plot tends to write itself and I stick along for the ride. J
What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?
I write in my notebook first. Always. Half of it’s plotted out, but mostly it’s just where the characters take me. Then once I can’t get any more into the notebook, I put fingers to keyboard. I tend to write between 3 and 5 thousand words a day. If I’m not feeling the story that day, I don’t push it. No sense in forcing the story. When the whole thing is done, I self-edit, then send to a beta reader or crit partner, then off to the editor.
Are you a Plotter or a Panster?
Both. It depends on the story, completely. I’ve had stories that simply wrote themselves. I sat down at the laptop and before I knew it, the story was written. I’ve had others that needed more time to percolate and I’ve written them piece by piece in my notebook. Eventually, it all comes together and a story comes out of the jumble.
Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?
Yes, Megan Slayer is my pen name. She writes mostly Male-Male stories and with a heavy BDSM flair. She gets away with everything Wendi can’t. She’s my bad girl side and I love it.
What's next for you?
I just finished a paranormal series for Turquoise Morning Press, entitled the Battle Scar series. It features vampires, shifters and someone who wants them all dead. It was fun and exhilarating to write that series. I can’t wait for the readers to get a hold of them.
Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

Personal questions......
Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?
Tucker Poston, from my racing story, Ever Fallen in Love, is my favorite because he’s strong, ballsy and he’s a race truck driver. Did I mention he’s sexy, too? He is. He also has made a few mistakes in his life, but isn’t above taking responsibility for his actions. The way he makes up for his past is great and I had a wonderful time writing him. I’d love to revisit him and see what he’s up to now.
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Please Remember Me features a character named Judi. The story actually was formed before I knew the real person named Judi, but as I wrote it, I knew she needed to be in the plot. She was a very dear friend of mine who passed away, but the thing about Judi was her cat. She talked soooo much about this cat. He was her baby. When she passed, her brother—the only living family she had—didn’t know what to do with the cat. Unfortunately, I couldn’t take him either. The cat ended up living with the brother until the cat passed away, but that situation—what to do with the pets of the elderly when they pass away—was a problem I felt needed tackled. So my heroine in Please Remember Me, having shared a house with Judi, decided she wanted to create a place for those pets to go. That story will always be in my heart because it reminds me of Judi.
If the book had to have a theme song, what would it be?
Absolutely. It would be the Tim McGraw song, Please Remember Me.
Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?
Five things about me that fans don’t know...
1. I don’t have a tattoo, even though people think I do.
2. I’m a natural blonde, but I’m going grey so I dye my hair blue.
3. I named my cats after race car drivers and when I told the drivers, they were please (or they seemed to be...)
4. I was rejected 47 times before I finally got my first acceptance letter from a publisher. I learned a ton along the way to that first acceptance and am thankful for those rejections because they made me stronger.
5. I knew my best friend for three years before I finally met her in person. We’d been friends online and through work, but hadn’t actually met until four years ago.
Five things about Best I Ever Had...Here we go!
1. Best I Ever Had started out as a short story that was a free read on a review website.
2. I hadn’t planned out a sequel or prequel until the readers begged for one.
3. I proposed the story to a panel, but at the time I didn’t think there would be a ton of people on that panel. Turns out there were seven people and I was petrified. I don’t remember anything I said during the panel, except here’s my story.
4. Sam and Emma were originally from an even shorter story that involved cheating spouses, but I didn’t like the plot so I trashed the story and let them tell me what they wanted their story to be.
5. Quint wasn’t in the initial plot of Best I Ever Had. He showed up later and I’m glad he did. He added the extra flavor to the story that it originally lacked.
