Broken Open by Robin Reinach : Spotlight & Dual Character Interview

Book Blurb

Broken Open is the tantalizing debut from writer Robin Reinach. Composed of emails, notes, and journal entries, the novella follows the sexcapades of two very different women and the men who love them.
Set in New York City, a substantial plot unfolds from multiple points of view, with twists and turns that keep the reader guessing as the heat rises.

20-something Lara Leeds is having an affair with her charismatic boss, Sam Thane, when she receives an intriguing invitation from his wife. What does Andrea Thane want from Lara?

Administrative assistant Lara Leeds has the kind of naïve openness and spunky curiosity that lead to adventure and emotional growth. Viking-tall and blond, Andrea Thane is unlike any woman Lara has ever met. Nor can Lara begin to guess at the secret wound that lies beneath the polished veneer of her boss’s wife’s confidence and charm. Despite her misgivings, Lara follows the elegant and mysterious Andrea Thane on a journey through Manhattan’s elite clubs, museums and restaurants. It takes courage to be vulnerable, Lara discovers.

Is the boss’s wife trying to trick, mentor or seduce her? Awed and confused, Lara feels compelled to pursue this possibly dangerous friendship, although it can only complicate the love triangle that already threatens her job. Driven by desire and admiration, Lara allows the older and more experienced woman to open her eyes to a world of sensuality, arousal, and exposure beyond her wildest dreams.

Away on business in Japan, Sam Thane keeps in touch with his wife and mistress by email. As tension in the love triangle rises, a chance encounter at the Frick Museum reconnects Lara with an old college friend, Henry. Lara finds herself growing closer to Henry, and she eventually reveals to him the new sexual sophistication she has learned from Andrea Thane.

Will Lara remain entangled in the feverish intensity of both Thanes or can she extricate herself? Is a happy ending possible for any of the participants in this sexy saga?

“I’m doing it willingly, I telegraphed to her. I give it to you as a gift. Not to compensate for being with Sam—we both know that’s impossible. Not to gain your approval or affection—we’re way past good impressions.”
Interview

First, for people who may not know you, can you tell us a little about yourselves?
Lara: Andrea and I have the most unusual relationship.
Andrea: Yes, I know all about the affair between Lara and my husband.

In your own words, can you tell us a little about Broken Open?
Andrea: Only a little, because I don’t want to spoil the fun.
Lara: Andrea is a very bad girl in the book.
Andrea: Stop it! I’m an elegant woman. YOU are the bad girl. Wasn’t I a terrific mentor? Didn’t I show you a fantastic time and teach you some important skills?
Lara: I can’t argue with that.

How did you each feel, knowing your story was being made into a book?
Andrea: Lara? She’s such an exhibitionist. I’m sure she LOVES having her private life splashed across the world.
Lara: And you don’t? You pretend to be so private, but the way you dress nobody can take their eyes off you. YOU’RE the exhibitionist.

Have you read the book or was living it enough?
Andrea: I WROTE the book. It’s filled with my emails and letters.
Lara: Excuse me! My journal entries are in that book.

What is your favorite scene in the book?
Andrea and Lara: The hot tub! (both laughing)

Lara, this book is from multiple perspectives. Can you tell us a little bit about your part in the story? For example, how did you and Andrea meet?
Lara: She seduced me—
Andrea: Look who’s talking! All I did was write you a letter and invite you to lunch.

Lara, what made you decide to embark on this adventure with Andrea?
Lara: She was honestly irresistible. I mean, look at her! Tall, blond, gorgeous skin. And have you ever met anyone more polished and sensual?
Andrea: (with Cheshire cat smile) I can be very compelling.

Just between us and the millions of readers *winks,* what is the most annoying thing about Andrea?
Lara: She is too frigging perfect!

Without giving away too much, are you now in a serious relationship?
Lara: Yes, but I won’t say anything more about that.

Is there any advice you’d like to give people looking for love or couples looking to spice up their relationships?
Lara: Take risks. Not physical safety risks, but risk your heart a little. The real thrill is emotional closeness. Be vulnerable, allow yourself to be seen by your lover and encourage your lover to be open and vulnerable with you.

Andrea, how is your perspective different from Lara’s? What made you decide to approach the woman your husband was sleeping with?
Andrea: I thought you might ask that! (laughs) Honestly, it was revenge, curiosity, and a weird feeling of magnetism. Who was this Lara Leeds, and why did Sam like her?

Just between us and the millions of readers *winks,* what is the most annoying thing about Lara?
Andrea: She’s too young and naive. Oh, and did I mention she had an affair with my husband? That’s pretty damn annoying!

Is there any advice you’d like to give people looking for love or couples looking to spice up their relationships?
Andrea: Shake things up a little. Do something different. And of course, read Broken Open because it’s hot, hot, hot!

A few random questions for the two of you……….

City or country?
Andrea and Lara in unison: CITY

Hero in jeans or hero in suits?
Andrea: Suits
Lara: Jeans

Dog or cat?
Andrea: No pets allowed in my apartment building.
Lara: Cat

Paperback or ebook?
Andrea: Paperback
Lara: ebook

What are 6 things (3 for each lady) that fans don’t know about your book?
Andrea: There’s a secret in my past. There’s a secret in my future. And Lara still doesn’t give herself enough credit. (laughing)
Lara: Andrea is a terrible snob! (laughs) I had lots of fun living through the events of this book. I was really “in the moment,” hyper alive and flowing during my adventures with Andrea. I only hope that future escapades live up to the peak experiences in the book.

Ladies, thank you so very, very much for spending time with us. I wish you all the luck in your future endeavors.

Now everyone GO BUY BROKEN OPEN!
