Oh man, have I told you how much I freakin’ love this series? If not, check out my other gushing reviews. If you don’t know about this wonderful mash up of regency vs. contemporary story mix from Maya Rodale, let me ‘splain it to you and then we’ll get to my gushing again.
Ok so Maya Rodale got the idea to write a regency romance but also to write a contemporary counterpart that parallel each other with some twists. The contemporary story is called The Bad Boy Billionaire series and is centered on our heroine; Jane Sparks whom writes regency novels based on her real life experiences. Which Maya Rodale than puts out as the companion, The Wicked Wallflower series, for real life readers to read, clever, huh? So basically you have similar stories, written by the same author, one in regency or historical romance and one in contemporary romance. Anywho, back to our story, oh and I’m reviewing the third edition of the contemporary story. So like I was saying, Jane writes regency novels and has started a new life in NYC. In the first book, she meets Duke, the Bad Boy Billionaire and the two embark on a mutually beneficial arrangement. In the second, the arrangement turns to a real life relationship and in the third; it’s all on the line.
In What A Girl Wants, Jane is finally happy with her life. She’s friendly with her ex, Sam; her Bad Boy Billionaire man candy, Duke, is moments away from getting his life back on track and she’s got the confidence needed to face her dreaded high school reunion. Nothing can rain on her parade, well that is until a storm hits New York plunging everything into the dark ages, literally and in a time where we rely on electricity as the heartbeat of modern day life, what are the two electronic junkies to do? On top of that, Jane’s ex has taken a turn for the worse and is looking for a little sympathy or maybe a little more? Her day ends up going from bad to worse when Sam decides to take his frustrations out on her by attempting to rape her as pay back.
Now in shatters, where does Jane go from here? How does she move forward with her new life when her old one keeps sucking her back in and how does she face Duke after what Sam has done to her?
Well you pull on your big girl panties with the help of a real man whom thinks the sun rises and sets on you and take tiny steps toward your future, that’s how!
OMG, this novella was so empowering and real but above all, freakin’ epically romantic!!! Every one of your romantic fantasies are in this book, from dancing in the dark, candle lit dinners, plush hotels, men on horses and in helicopters, to the big huge grand gestures of love, it’s got it all!!! My little Disney lovin’ heart was grinnin’ like a fool.
Now, I wonder what happened to her sweater?
