If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your Night series, your new book, Night Child, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.
So first off, your newest book is part of your Night series. Let's talk about the series as a whole....
In your own words, what is the Night series about?
The Night Series features vampire-like shape shifters called Night Walkers. They’re immortal blood drinkers, but unlike vampires they’re descended from the Mayan race and they’re upholders of the mortal world.

I had a palm reading in New Orleans and at the end of the reading the palm reader walked me toward the door and asked, “Are you a writer?” I said no, and she smiled and told me I’d be a famous writer someday. *boggle* I had been writing for fun for years at that point, but I’d never tried to get published, let alone write a novel, but my brain wouldn’t stop thinking about it. I love vampire novels, but I wanted to write something set in San Diego with a non-European vampire. The Night Walkers were born.

Night Child picks up a few weeks after Night Demon finishes. We’ve got a mortal pregnant with an immortal child who holds the survival of the entire Night Walker race in his hands. Enter the ancient Egyptian God of chaos, Apep, who sees a chance to control the Night Walkers, and soon the entire world’s future is in play. Issa is called upon to protect a mortal woman with a psychic gift. She may be their only hope to stop chaos and save us all.
How did you come up with the title of your newest book in the series and can you tell us its significance?

When I planned the series I knew the final book would be Night Child because all of the chaos stems from this immortal child.
How does the new book, Night Child, fit into the series?
This is the final book in the series. It bring back all the Night Walkers you've met in the previous books and I hope it’ll give the readers a happy feeling of closure at the end.

I think so, but you never know. If you’ve read MOONLIGHT from my Moon Series, you might have noticed at Adam is training Calisto’s Dark Knight who is owned by a philanthropist in San Diego. That is indeed Calisto from the Night Series, so you never know. He and Kate might show up at Whispering Pines Ranch someday…
What genre would you say Night Child is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?
What genre would you say Night Child is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?
It’s vampire paranormal romance, but I think what sets it apart is that the Night Walkers have a spirit animal inside that is very connected to their soul. They also live at night so they’re not undead like a typical vampire.
What was your favorite scene to write in Night Child?

I had so many! I loved writing this book and spending time with all my Night Walkers one last time. I think my favorite is probably the final scene in the book. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I cried happy tears writing the final 20 pages…
What was the hardest scene to write for Night Child?

Ugh. By far it’s the final battle with Apep. The sacrifices that are made to save everyone and stop him are SOOO high. It broke me to write it and to put Issa in that position, but it needed to happen. There was no other way.

Issa knelt down in front of her, taking her hands in his. “Until the end of time, I will love you. You are the moon in my endless night. I have never abandoned this world, even when I desperately wanted to, and I will never leave you, either.”

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
Writing.......
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
I’ve always enjoyed writing and in the late 90’s I started writing for fun every night. I found a group and we wrote interactive stories together for a few years. I never dreamed I was honing my craft for a career as a novelist!
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
The characters. I don’t plot my books so when a character and an opening scene comes to me I have to write the book to see how it turns out. It’s like watching a movie in my head and I have to know what’s going to happen next.

I usually light candles and chomp gum. Usually Trident bubble gum… It helps me think! LOL

Pfffft! I could never choose! LOL
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Calisto from Night Walker will always hold a special place in my heart because he was my first for everything. My first novel I ever wrote, my first publishing contract, my first writing awards. He made the dream reality for me and I’ll love him forever for that.

If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?
There were two songs on my Night Child playlist that really inspired me as I wrote the book. “Lovers” the title song from House of Flying Dragons. Kathleen Battle sings it, and the tune and lyrics are timeless and haunting. I felt very connected to Issa & Muriah every time it played. Also “I Will Love You” by Fisher broke my heart but it was exactly the theme for Issa & Muriah.
Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the series?
Hmmm I’m an open book, so you may have heard some of these?
1) I’m a Disney freak. Disneyland is my second home.
2) Music is my first love so it usually plays a big part in my books. I can’t help it.
3) I grew up on a horse ranch so writing the Moon Series with so many horses in it has been a BLAST for me!
4) I cry every time I watch Rocky… And in Rocky II when he yells “Yo Adrian, I did it!” I also bawl.
5) I name all my cars.

1) I love taking real history and giving it a paranormal twist. It made writing the Night Series a total blast for me!
2) I cried when I wrote the scene where Kate slapped Calisto and called him a coward.
3) I also cried writing the scene in Night Demon when the Guardian says goodbye to Rita knowing he would never see her again.
4) I fell in love with Issa while writing Night Demon and had to keep promising myself he would get his happily ever after… Eventually!
5) While researching Night Demon I actually went down to the Yucatan and hiked the pyramid at Chichen Itza. I also got stuck on the top, terrified to go down. My son was a little guy back then and without his suggestion that we sit on our butts and scoot down, I might still be up on the top of that pyramid!
