Hi R.E. Butler,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your series The Wolf’s Mate, your new book, Lindy & The Wulfen, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

So first off, your newest book is part of your series, The Wolf’s Mate. Let's talk about the series as a whole....

In your own words, what is The Wolf’s Mate series about?

The lives of a pack of wolf shifters in a fictional town in Kentucky, as they find their mates.

What inspired the series?

I had started reading paranormal romance several years ago and liked the idea of wolf shifters and decided to see what would happen if I paired up a stubborn half-wolf young woman with a kinda-jerky, kinda-lovable alpha wolf.

Can you tell us a bit about the newest book in the series, Lindy & The Wulfen?

Lindy is a she-wolf in the Tressel Pack and is seriously injured during a full moon hunt. Her truemate - the one male meant for her - is Crimson, a half-fairy, half wolf shifter from another realm, who saves her life. Their story is one of redemption and making your own path in life. Plus lots of romance. And some growling.

How did you come up with the title of your newest book in the series and can you tell us its significance?

All the books in the series are titled with the hero and heroine names of the main characters. Although I could have called the book Lindy & Crimson, I decided that I liked using Crimson’s persona - the Wulfen, which is a fairy that can shift into a white wolf - for the title.

How does the new book, Lindy & The Wulfen, fit into the series?

It picks up where book 6 left off, and checks in with the other characters in the series.

How many books are planned for the series?

Possibly four more, but I never say never when it comes to stories, and right now the series is wide open for how many will come in the future.

What genre would you say Lindy & The Wulfen is and what sets your book apart for fans of the genre?

Paranormal Romance. The character of the Wulfen is unique to the genre, as he is not only a fairy with feathered wings and supernatural powers, he can also shift into a large white wolf.

What was your favorite scene to write in Lindy & The Wulfen?

One of the scenes is from the alpha female, Cadence’s, POV and she’s talking to her daughter about lunch and the only thing her daughter can really say clearly is “chicken”. It was something straight from my own experiences as a mom, and always makes me chuckle when I read it.

What was the hardest scene to write for Lindy & The Wulfen?

Early in the book, Lindy gets the wind knocked out of her sails when she realizes how much damage she has done to her status in the pack with her bad behavior. It was hard to see her sink so low, even though it was her own doing.

What is your favorite line or quote from Lindy & The Wulfen?

Lindy and her friend Faith are talking about Lindy deciding to wear less revealing clothes to match the person she feels like she is on the inside, and Faith looks at her own clothes and says, “Are you saying my insides are slutty?”

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I’ve always enjoyed writing, but it wasn’t until I had some encouragement from a friend who suggested I write for real and get published, that I took it seriously.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

I love sharing my stories with others. What inspires me is knowing that at any given time, someone might be reading one of my stories somewhere in the world, visiting Allen for the first time, and it’s just the coolest feeling in the world.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

My writing process gets more refined with each book. I have a set time each day when I write, and I treat my writing like a job and write every day. I begin with a general outline of the story which usually becomes part of the description. I figure out what the characters look like so that I can picture them in my mind and describe them clearly, and use a series bible for each book series that helps me keep track of important things about the towns, characters, and “rules”.

Are you a Plotter or a Panster?

A little bit of both. The further I go into my series, the more I need to plot as opposed to just winging it, but there are times when I just sit down and write and let whatever comes, come.

What's next for you?

I’ll be releasing another book in my Hyena Heat Series late this summer.

Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

I hope that you enjoy Lindy’s story and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

it is hard to choose, but I would probably go with Linus from the 2nd wolf’s mate book. He’s just so sweet and very broken and gun-shy about relationships, and then he meets his mate and she isn’t about to let him go.

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

Probably Callie from Wolf’s Mate 3 is the most special to me, because I had to watch her walk away from everything she knew and loved and start over.

If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?

I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You by Savage Garden

Lastly, What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

Me:

I’m extremely allergic to horses, I have a parrot fish named Comet, my first kiss was at age 13, I love to watch birds and have several feeders outside my kitchen windows so I can see them, and I once fell into Lake Erie trying to rescue my daughter’s doll that she had dropped off a dock.

Book:

Originally, Crimson was a bear shifter who saved Lindy’s life but I decided that it was better for him to be a Wulfen instead. The names of the Fae Realm plants and creatures are just goofy things I make up on the fly when I’m writing..horn-toed woll beast...not real, but it sounds cool! I decided to let Crimson have the power over fire so that he could help out the pack on the full moon. The term “pack bicycle” came from my beta, Mandy. Allen, Kentucky in this series is fictional, but in real life, there is an Allen, Kentucky. I didn’t realize that when I made up the name.
