Book Blurb

A woman holds vigil over her wealthy, dying step-mother. Tensions -- already high with greedy relatives appearing to claim their inheritances -- are further strained by the appearance of the dying woman's long-lost son, who ran away 18 years ago. His mother greets him with joy, the relatives with resentment, but the woman alone knows he is hiding something...that he is not who he says he is. As she uncovers secrets and deceptions of the past and present, she knows only one thing in her heart -- that the irresistible appeal and seductive power of this mysterious stranger may be more dangerous than she thinks!

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Eighteen years ago, Alexander McDowell kisses Carolyn Smith and then leaves never to be heard from again. Carolyn Smith saw Alexander McDowell die. She witnessed his death, never revealing that it happened. Now his mother, Sally, is dying of cancer and he seems to have come back from the dead. There is a huge inheritance at stake that Alex would get half of once Sally dies.
Carolyn knows that this Alex is a con man out to steal Sally’s money. He has to be doesn’t he?
He can’t be the real Alex. Carolyn watched him die. She knows she did…didn’t she?
Carolyn is constantly questioning what is the truth and what is not. She doesn’t believe that the man showing up and claiming to be Alex is the real Alex. Yet the author leaves hints that could go either way. She keeps the reader guessing as she adds each layer to the story. Just as you think you have it figured out, something else throws you into a tail spin. The reader questions their instincts and confusion rears its head again.
Then the reader starts asking questions. Who killed Alex McDowell? Who are the good guys? Who are the bad guys? The author kept you guessing until the very end and you are constantly trying to answer those questions. It was definitely an exciting ride and utterly fascinating to watch the story as it unfolded.
Some of the twists the author threw at you, you could see coming the others, not even close. There were some things that struck me as inconsistent so I rated it a 4 out of 5. However I definitely recommend this book.
