Genre: Romance with paranormal elements.
Book One in the Firefly Hollow series.
In 1960, a tragic death in the family calls young Sarah Browning back from college to her Appalachian homestead. Unable to return to school and finish her degree, she finds herself facing a future that isn’t what she’d planned. Lost and grieving, she wanders onto her reclusive neighbor’s property where she stumbles across the all-too-attractive Owen Campbell, a man hiding secrets she’d only ever thought were legend.
Owen Campbell was raised on the folklore of Eastern Kentucky, tales of men and women with magical abilities from shape-shifting to healing powers. Rejected by those he loves because of his own abilities, he isolates himself from the world. When he meets Sarah, he’s faced with the tough decision of whether to let her in or stay hidden away to keep his heart safe.
Firefly Hollow is the first book in the "Firefly Hollow" series. Other titles include Butterfly Lane, Dragonfly Creek, Cattail Ridge, and Cricket Cove. Also by this author: the Shadows/Leroy Collection, a series of standalone Romantic Suspense novels. Titles include Secrets in the Shadows, Under the Moon's Shadow, Shadows from the Grave, Hidden in the Shadows, and In the Heart's Shadow.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
This book is set in the 1950s and the 1960s in Kentucky. Sarah and Owen are members of two neighboring families. Owen has a secret that forces him to keep to himself and has caused a rift between his father, his brother and himself. It forced him to quit school and move in with his uncle for a while. Owen is a shifter and that shocking knowledge occurred when he hit puberty. He resigned himself to a lonely existence on top of his mountain. He knew that if his father rejected him that no woman would want him.
He first saw Sarah when she was fifteen after she had crosses onto his property. He watched her and interacted with her while in deer form. He even saved her from a rattlesnake in his wolf form. He feared her because he knew she was special. His longing grew so when she left for college, his relief was profound. He knew she could break him.
When Sarah returned home for good after a family tragedy, Owen was afraid to even talk to her. He had feelings for her even though they had not met face to face. Once he made the decision to try to get to know her, he was lost.
Sarah was intrigued by Owen. She knew nothing of his secret but her instincts told her he was a good man. As time goes on they grow closer and neither one could be happier. However when life throws more tragedy their way, their relationship is tested beyond measure and neither is sure what they will have when all is said and done.
This was an interesting story. I usually don’t read a lot of books set in this time period, but the author did a fabulous job capturing the trends and tone of the time. The thoughts of working women, sex before marriage, a man’s rights and many other ideas of the time were included and accurately described. The setting and feel made it a cool read.
The characters were innocent and sweet. I loved how Owen treated Sarah when he was with her. He accepted her for his true self and supported her in anything she did. He supported equal rights.
The shifting that Owen did gave a paranormal twist which included the folklore of the area. It was an interesting dynamic to the story. Owen was a tortured soul as a result which entices readers to root for him from the very beginning. I give it a 4 out 5 stars.
