ARC Review : Crave The Night (Midnight Breed #12) by Lara Adrian

Book Blurb

Born and raised to be an emotionless killing machine, Nathan is one of the most lethal Breed vampires in existence. A key member of the Order—an elite group of warriors charged with protecting both mortals and vampires—Nathan executes each mission with flawless precision and a total lack of mercy. Now he must pursue a powerful, hidden enemy. But Nathan’s hard discipline and training are no match for the fierce pull he feels toward a young woman he has no right to desire—a woman of wealth and high social standing who has long been promised to another Breed male, and who may also prove to be the key to rooting out Nathan’s elusive quarry.

Jordana lives a life of glittering privilege as a member of a prominent Breed family in Boston. Surrounded by fine things and fawning admirers, Jordana wants for nothing—until she crosses paths with a dark, intense warrior from the Order and finds herself swept into an impulsive, sizzling kiss that neither of them will forget. As much as she tries to deny her deep feelings for Nathan, Jordana cannot resist the craving to be near him, to break through his forbidding walls and see the man he truly is. But getting close to Nathan will thrust Jordana into a treacherous new world, forcing her to risk all she has and all she knows about herself and her past. And loving this seductive man could be the most dangerous temptation of all

Toot's Review

Lara Adrian’s Crave The Night is the second in the new generation of her PNR Breed series world. This is Nathan’s story. For fans of the series, he’s the Gen One teen that was rescued by Hunter and his mate Corinne. He’s also Corinne’s son.

Twenty years have passed since Nathan was rescued. He still struggles with his Hunter past and the conditioning he went through but he’s pled his allegiance to the Order and his family. Nathan is still a product of that conditioning though. He eats, sleeps and fights (rinse- repeat). He’s risen through the Order ranks to captain his own team and now he’s hot on the trail of an Order enemy whom might have ties to a terrorist group. His mission is to catch this elusive enemy at all costs. Unfortunately his mission crosses paths with his other current obsession, the lovely and ethereal Jordana.

Jordana is a pampered princess living in high society but even though she lives a life of luxury, she finds she feels more like she’s living in a gilded cage. She realizes she’s at a crossroads in her life. Follow the path her adoptive father wants for her or follow her heart and see where her lust for the dark and dangerous Nathan leads her.

While the two heat up the pages in Crave The Night, they also embark on a journey to discover whom they both are. Both have secrets known and unknown with enemies hot on their trail. Jordana and Nathan will discover that not all is as it seems.

Lara does it again!! This sophomore addition to her Breed world delivers everything you’d ever want in your PNR and more. The two characters will melt your ereader and singe your pages with the heat these main characters two generate. It’s full of action, adventure, secrets, history, treasure, family and love but best of all its chalk full of heroes! Not just our main hero but as the story unfolds, we find out that there are more than we originally knew and heroics come in all forms. If I had to sum up this book in a few words, I’d say it’s about young love, sacrifice and family.

The only critiques I have are that I would have liked more interaction with Nathan and his parents Hunter and Corinne. I really felt there were some opportunities to show how far Hunter and Nathan have come since their conditioning as hunters, maybe a heart to heart but it didn’t happen and I felt a little bereft for Nathan. He really could have used some parental guidance at one point and it seemed a good opportunity for a scene but sadly there wasn’t one. Also Lara does a great job at foreshadowing the big reveal in the story, so when it was unearthed, the impact wasn’t as much of a blind side for the reader as it was for the characters. Other than those small critiques, I loved it and it was a great addition to the Breed world.
4 out of 5
