Interview

Hi Annie,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your new book Hot Rock and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

So first off, Hot Rock Questions.......

In your own words, what is Hot Rock about?

Hot Rock is about David, my rock star hero, who holds his privacy close to his heart as he had been badly hurt.

As Davy began to fall in love with Megan, the Ph D student who comes for the Glastonbury Festival, he fights it and tries to cover it up with crass behavior to turn her away... but it didn’t work. She kept overlooking his behavior despite her best intentions to avoid him. He does his best to protect her as she inadvertently follows him through a time slip back to the 1971 festival where he found his fame.

The story follows how they fall in love, and lose each other in time. Do they get back together in 2014? You’ll have to read the book to find out!

How did you come up with the title of the book?

Hot I think the title came to me with the story!

Is Hot Rock a standalone book or will it be part of a series?

It was originally a standalone book but many readers have written to me wanting more , so I now plan to write at lease another two in the series

What was your favorite scene to write for either your hero or heroine in Hot Rock?

The scene where David is at one with the music and the music connects him with Megan. Rather than tell you, I will give you a little excerpt…

A roar from below filled his ears as the drums kicked in. He picked up his guitar and looped the strap around his neck as Slim hit the deep notes on his bass guitar. The music reverberated through the night air and filled his chest and he had never felt more alive than he did in that moment. The muse was back and the synergy between the band, the music, the words and the crowd was complete.

Pure, clean energy filled him. The connection had been made.

He reached the end of the chorus and a euphoric haze filled him. David stopped singing and let his gaze drop to Megan. The noise from the crowd surged up to him as they sang the words to him as he stared down at her.

Her eyes were fixed on him and her cheeks were flushed. Joy filled her expression as the music continued and in that instant he knew she felt it too. Picking up the microphone, he sang the next verse. A shaft of pure sexual desire ran through him and his feelings poured out through the words of the song and the crowd roared in appreciation as he gyrated on the stage.

What was the hardest scene to write?

I always find the black moment difficult to write as I get so emotionally involved with my characters. The scene after Megan goes back home and thinks she has lost him was very emotional for me.

What's your favorite line or quote from this book?

David is very rude to Megan initially to try to get rid of her…

“No way, sweetheart. You’re not staying. You’ve heard of ‘wham, bam, thank you ma’am’? Well, if you want me in your pants, that’s the deal. You get what you came for and then you leave. Okay?”

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I have wanted to write since the day I began to read and discovered stories. When I retired from my education career I was determined to begin writing all the stories in my head, and make a career of it. It has been an exhilarating ride over the past three years.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

Inspiration is always there but a very disciplined writing schedule is what drives my writing day. I sit at my computer at 9am every morning after I swim for half an hour.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

The heart of my writing is still with my original process of ‘organic writing’. Strangely I also find that my style of writing also depends on the genre I am writing.

My stories come from different places and the sources for my stories are varied. My recent release Hot Rock was the result of one of those wonderful creative moments... one of those great creative hits when the inspiration for your next story blitzes in via your heart. The plot, the characters and the entire story came to me in one afternoon as I was travelling to a conference last year.

Are you a Plotter or a Panster?

When I began writing three years ago, I soon learned that the way I usually approached the craft of writing was defined as being a ‘panster’ or a seat of the pants writer. This approach served me well for my first few books and these books were quickly contracted by publishers. So I figured I must be on the right track, and doing what was best for me.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

No… I write under Annie Seaton across all of the genres.

What's next for you?

I am very busy at the moment. I am beginning edits for my second Half Moon Bay series book, and I’m halfway through writing Book Three. I am also writing the first book in the Emerald Quest continuity series as well as a single title romantic thriller set in Kakadu National Park. I have a deadline for Seductive Secrets, the prequel to Dangerous Desire. The second Hot Rock series book, and now the third book are percolating in my mind. Since Hot Rock was released early this week, I have received many emails from readers who want a Hot Rock series. I am going to have to write more, I am sure!

Is there anything you’d like to add or say to your fans?

I love to hear from fans by email and on social media. I have a FB group for each of my books where we discuss them. IF you would like to join, please email me

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?

Tomas Richards in Italian Affair. I loved how falling in love with Brianna moved him from a tight up tight guy to the wonderful free character he became. From a suit to long hair and an earring!

Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?

Again…Italian Affair is my favorite, I connected with both Brianna and Tomas…and who wouldn’t love to inherit a villa on an Italian island!

If the book had to have a theme song, what would it be?

Lines on my Face bb Peter Frampton… an oldie but the song I listened to as I wrote the story

Seeing the romance revolves around a rocker, who's your personal rock god?

For me growing up in the seventies was the beginning of a love affair with seventies music.

And that was why I set Hot Rock in that era. For me it was a love of glam rock in my teens and the memories of the posters on the bedroom walls. I loved the outrageous clothes, makeup, hairstyles, and platform-soled boots. The flamboyant lyrics, costumes, and visual styles of glam performers appealed to me with the wonderful guitar sounds and the rock stars who produced them.

David Bowie was my hero, Peter Frampton’s voice and lyrics made me tremble and Bruce Springsteen...well everyone knows why he is such an amazing rock star. Don’t they?

I actually had the amazing experience of seeing Bruce Springsteen live on his recent Australian tour and he still has it! That elusive magic is still there.

Can you describe for the readers a perfect date for your couple from Hot Rock?

A picnic in the English countryside…sweet smelling flowers, buzzing bees and Davy playing his guitar.

Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?
1. I can’t ride a bicycle.

2. My favorite food is potato.

3. I have to live by the sea… I get claustrophobic inland.

4. I was a librarian in my first career.

5. I love camping in the outback beneath the stars.

I spent a lot of time doing the research and the following things in the book are based on fact:

1. The milk donated from the Worthy Farm.

2. The order of the performances of the bands.

3. The dowsing rods to position the stage

4. The pyramid stage really existed.

5. David Bowie actually performed at Glastonbury 1971.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!

Thank you for hosting me. I hope you all love this book!
