Series Review : Ruby Red (The Ruby Red Trilogy #1) by Kerstin Gier (YA)

Book Blurb

Gwyneth Shepherd's sophisticated, beautiful cousin Charlotte has been prepared her entire life for traveling through time. But unexpectedly, it is Gwyneth, who in the middle of class takes a sudden spin to a different era!

Gwyneth must now unearth the mystery of why her mother would lie about her birth date to ward off suspicion about her ability, brush up on her history, and work with Gideon--the time traveler from a similarly gifted family that passes the gene through its male line, and whose presence becomes, in time, less insufferable and more essential. Together, Gwyneth and Gideon journey through time to discover who, in the 18th century and in contemporary London, they can trust.

Review but the Ruby Red series by Kerstin Gier

Ruby Red

Charlotte this. Charlotte that. Charlotte, Charlotte, Charlotte. She is the center of attention of my family, the one that has a special gene that will make her travel across time, the perfect young lady, in other words, everything I am not in the eyes of almost everyone.

I am not jealous, she can have a life full of mysteries and special training any day but I just wish people stop criticizing me because I am not like her. I have a best friend; I think for my own, I ask why instead of simply doing as I am told. All that makes me imperfect for the secret order my family belongs and that handsome jerk, Gideon, that does nothing more than assume I am nothing but a superficial, selfish and silly girl and keeps comparing me to the mature and perfect cousin of mine.

Well, then I guess this means bad news for all of us:

I am the real Ruby, the time traveler, the magical raven that a secret order has been waiting for all this centuries but…nobody knows yet and I am not sure I want to be that person.

It shouldn’t be me but…sometimes parent tell lies to protect you. Mom hid who I might possibly be. The question is, was it out of love?

Sapphire Blue

This have not been easy since I and pretty much all the Order realized I am the Ruby, the final member of the secret time-traveling Circle of Twelve but it could be worse, right? I mean, traveling to different dates of the past in strange and funny looking costumes to meet dead people and ask them for their blood isn’t so bad, right? To make things worse Gideon, another time traveler that can make my heart skip a beat in less than a second, is warm and sweet one moment and in the blink of an eye is as could as ice. I know I am probably getting my hopes high with him but… what they say about love being blind and the stubbornness of teens is probably right.

At least, I have got my best friend Lesly, my ghost of a friend from a James and my personal demon Xemerius to catch my back when I fall. Those three are spies, teachers, researchers and the best listeners ever so I guess I might be able to survive this madness.

Emerald Green

No one dares to question the words of the count, the Emerald of the Circle of twelve and pretty much the boss of the whole order. He dictates where and when we go and what we do once we are there so once I started questioning him things got worse. Turns out there is something much more dark and mysterious about the prophecy if the raven and if I am not careful terrible things might happen.

Here I thought there were no more secrets than the ones the order was hiding from be but it turns out my family has a few of their own too and they might save my life or kill me in the blink of an eye.

Who should I trust when my own flesh and blood doesn’t trust me with the truth? What should I do with these feelings I have for Gideon when no one even himself things it is right for me to feel that way.

The time is getting near, someone has to die and….

it might be me

In this trilogy, Kerstin Gier takes us on an adventure full of mystery, drama and romance that will make you held your breath every once in a while and skip a beat every now and then. This isn’t a story about family issues but about betrayal, deception and the hardships that should be faced in order to be with the one you love.

Are you ready for the journey?
