Review : Wild Ones (The Lane #1) by Kristine Wyllys (CR)

Book Blurb

Bri Martin likes her skirts too short, her heels too high, and trouble close at hand. So when big, brooding underground boxer Luke Turner comes into the bar where she works and starts a fight before she brings his first drink, she can't help being intrigued. Luke is everything she never wanted and everything she can't resist.

Soon, Luke is showing up everywhere Bri is, and she can't break free of his hold on her, nor does she want to. When her best friend turns on her, it's Luke who is there. When Luke's opponent comes after her to send Luke a message, it's he who comes to her rescue.

Before Bri knows it, she's caught in the midst of a rivalry between her boyfriend and her boss, both of whom are not content to settle their scores inside the ring. She swore she'd never live this life, so like the one she once ran from. But only by confronting her past can she decide where her future lies…and whether Luke can be a part of it.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Brianna Martin had a hard childhood, but she is taking care of herself by working in a bar and rooming with her best friend Jax. She is volatile and a mess emotionally but she is tough. Jax is the only person she can stand long enough to have as a friend.

However, things change one night at work when a group of mean looking men walk in when she is working. Bri is instantly drawn to them, especially the biggest one. It turns out that Luke Turner is just as drawn to her. He checks her out at the bar and lets her interfere in a bar fight. He lets her get between him and the piano player. He also rescues and takes care of her outside the bar when she is jumped. He can’t get her out of his head and he starts showing up wherever she is.

When Bri learns more about Luke, she panics. Her past rears it ugly head and she tries to run. She has to choose and no matter which choice she makes, she is going to lose.

This was an intense book. The characters were from the darker side of town and lived a violent life. Brianna was tough and closed off but loyal. It made her character likable. I liked how the author revealed to the reader how explosive her relationship with Luke was. It was emotionally intense and could change on a dime. I never knew what would set them off. It was fascinating.

The setting of the story and the events that occurred were dark and violent. You didn’t know who was on Brianna’s side. Those she thought she could trust would turn on her. It seemed to be her theme through life, yet she persevered. This was a quick read with a lot of bad boys. I would like to see the story continue. I give it a 4 out of 5.
