Review : In Bloom (The Brightside #1) by Katie Delahanty (NA)

Book Blurb

My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Free.
I left for LA with everything I owned piled into my old Volkswagen and dreams of becoming a costume designer. Little did I know I’d wind up designing for a lingerie company—yeah, not sure how I landed this gig—and taken under the wing of two young Hollywood insiders. The fashion shows and parties were great, but life really got exciting when the seriously hottest lead singer of my favorite band started to fall for me.
How does someone like me, an ordinary girl from Pittsburgh, wind up in the arms of the world’s sexiest rock star—surrounded by celebrities, fashion, and music—and not be eaten alive? Berkeley is everything I've ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, but the paparazzi, the tabloids, the rumors, it's all getting a bit too crazy. My life has become every girl’s dream come true, if only I don’t blink and lose it all…

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Olivia Bloom has left Pittsburg and moved to Hollywood. She wants to be a stylist. Unfortunately the movie job she moved for fell through. Soon she gets a new one at a lingerie company. She also has the best friends ever. Parker and Blair know how Hollywood works. They are determined to help her through it and set a challenge for themselves. Blair is a publicist and Parker works on a reality show and they are determined to make Olivia an “It girl”. They groom her and train her in what to do and say.

In amongst the chaos, Olivia meets Berkeley Dalton. He is the lead singer of her favorite band. She has a chance meeting behind the scenes of a swimsuit shoot. She is in line for the bathroom and he approaches her. He even talks to her. She is so shocked she acts the fan girl and feels like a complete idiot. She hopes she never sees him again.

Of course, that doesn’t happen. In fact she starts seeing him more and more. She seems to be invited to the same events he is. When she comes face to face with him again, she doesn’t want him to remember her. She is horrified with the way she acted the first time they met. He remembers her and finds a reason to keep seeing her anyway he can. She fascinates him but also scares him. He has never been drawn to anyone like he is her. Olivia is shocked that he actually wants to spend time with her. She is ordinary but she embraces him. However, his world intervenes and she is thrown into the spotlight. She has to decide if he is worth the leap of faith or if he is just biding his time until he moves on.

I loved this book. It was fun to get a glimpse of what the secrets of Hollywood are. The reader gets to travel through the craziness with Olivia. She and her partners in crime were great a combination. Parker and Blair were comedic relief and a fun pair. Everyone should have friends like that.

The love story between Olivia and Berkeley was sigh worthy and sweet. However, his star status made it rough. The reader feels for both characters. Poor Olivia had no idea what they would try and do to her. It was fascinating to see how they came together and how the public and fellow stars tried to tear them apart. It makes me happy that I don’t live in that world. I give this book a 5 out of 5 and recommend it to everyone. It’s an awesome read.
