Wow, Ok, so totally not what I was expecting. So how do I summarize this book......BDSM meets Witches/Warlocks in short little novellas. Yep that's about it in a nutshell. The book is comprised of 3 short stories all with the central characters Max and Victoria. I'm not sure why there are 3 distinct stories, possibly they were to be a series of some sort but I digress.
Anywho, the first is how Victoria met Max called "A Familiar Kind of Magic" in which we find out that in this world that Ms. Day has created of Witches and Warlocks, there are also Familiars and Victoria is one, a cat in fact. She's also a bit feral, hence Max. Max has been sent by the Council to either tame her or put her down, enter BDSM territory. Victoria being a Familiar, she is both woman and cat (basically a shapeshifter of sorts) and like any good "Pet" she needs to be tamed and trained. Yep, I said it! Anywho, I won't spoil anymore but that's the first story.
Cut to the next one called "That Old Black Magic". In this story, Max and Victoria are on the hunt for an old foe of hers that took her old master from her. Victoria must make some hard decisions on where her heart lies.
Lastly, "Black Magic Woman" is the story that ties the three stories together by testing the bond between Max and Victoria with outside forces whom want these two parted in any way they can.
As I eluded to earlier, it was a bit odd reading a book that was comprised of 3 short stories that tie the main story together. I think the elements for a great erotic PNR are there but the bruskness of the stories as a whole lost some of the elements along the way for me. I did however enjoy the erotic element, damn these were hot, I mean freakin' smoldering but in all honesty, it did weigh less on the story and more on the eroticism. Now with all that being said, this would probably be a great read for anyone who loves short stories, PNR and BDSM.
