Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your series Speak of the Devil, your new book, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, and your process for our budding authors as well as fans.

So first off, Your newest book is part of your series, Speak of the Devil. Let's talk about the series as a whole....
Yay.
In your own words, what is the Speak of the Devil series about?
The Speak of the Devil series is about Faith Bettincourt, the Devil’s youngest daughter, and her attempts to find love and a normal life In Pittsburgh. There’s only two problems with that scenario—the first is that her crazy family can’t keep from getting in the way. The second? The man of her dreams just happens to be the son of an angel.
How did you come up with the idea, title of the series and of the current book, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
I actually came up with the idea for the series by wandering around a Wal-Mart in the middle of the night. But at the end of the last book I had broke Matt and Faith up and I knew that this was the last book so I had to get them back together but I didn’t want to make it too easy. I needed a way to force these two characters to take on the entire world—and in this case the Apocalypse—so that they could be together. To make it worse, this time it’s Faith that kicked off the Apocalypse when she became the Angel of Death (which is also how we came up with the title).
Can you tell us a bit about the newest book in the series, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
Faith’s life has never been anywhere near sane but it’s gotten worse now that her best friend has married her brother, her parents have gotten back together and her own love life has fallen apart. Now her best friend is pregnant with Faith’s first niece or nephew and everyone is happy but her and Matt—who’s still busy trying to bring the angels on earth into the modern era. But just when they think they’ve finally gotten things worked out the crap hits the fan in the only way it could for the Bettincourt clan when Faith runs down the angel of death with her brother’s new SUV and ends up having to take on his job. Now between running the afterlife’s Death Services Department, trying to repair her relationship with Matt and prepping for the coming baby it can’t get too much worse. Until someone else decides there isn’t much they wouldn’t do to get Faith demoted and take her promotion.
How does the new book, Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, fit into the series?
It’s the very last book. Faith and Matt’s last chance at Happily Ever After is here and now and they have to seize it before the world ends. And I mean that literally since this book brings it all to a head when the end of days start in the middle of Pittsburgh.
How many books are planned for the series?
It’s always been planned as a three book series but when I was finishing this one I actually toyed with the idea of writing another.
What was your favorite scene to write for your hero or heroine in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
The epilogue. I know that sounds strange but at that point I knew that everyone got happily ever after and I got to give them—and me—that last little bit of happiness before I closed the book on them and said goodbye. Plus I got to write in my favorite character ever with Iggy the Evil Hamster of Death. It’s too bad I didn’t think of him in the beginning. These would be completely different books.
What was the hardest scene to write for Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
Without giving too much away it would have to be one of the scenes between Matt and Faith after she’s become the Angel of Death and he thought he was going to lose her forever.
Writing....... is a process of banging your head against a keyboard every day and hoping what comes out doesn’t suck.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?
I don’t. I’ve always been that person who sort of told stories. Then I started writing them down more as a hobby then anything else. It was just something to make my friends and I laugh but then I decided to take an editing class with Liz Pelletier and she contacted me afterwards to buy Luck of the Devil (the first book in this series and my first complete novel length manuscript ever) and it all just sort of snowballed from there. I didn’t actually quit my job and start doing this full time until after I’d sold seven books.
What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?
The fact that even if I never sell another book the stories are still in my head, trying to get out and if I don’t put them down they invade my dreams and then I never get to sleep.
What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?
I have to have music. I can’t write in silence. It makes me antsy. It doesn’t matter what the music is I’ve just got to have something to listen to or I can’t focus. Oh and it can’t be the television or radio plays because then I get caught up in those and my word count plummets.
Are you a Plotter or a Panster?
Neurotic Plotter.
Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?
I’ve released three YA books (Everlast, Evanescent, and Infinity) under the penname Andria Buchanan and the reason I chose to do it under a penname is to prevent my younger fans from getting their hands on the sex in my adult releases.
What's next for you?
I’m working on a trilogy of paranormal/urban fantasy romances about female superheroes looking for love in modern day St. Louis that is going to be released by Entangled Covet.
Personal questions......
Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing characters, who is your favorite and why?
Malachi. He’s based on my best friend Vincent and the character really is like his own greek chorus. Everything I’ve ever wanted to say and bit my lip to be nice? Malachi just spouts it out and doesn’t take any crap for it.
Are there any of your stories or characters that hold a special place in your heart?
Faith has a very special place in my heart because her novel is the first that I ever actually completed. Now that I’m letting her and Matt go it’s sort of sad.
If the book or series had to have a theme song, what would it be?
Crazy on You by Heart.
Can you describe for the readers a perfect date for your couple from Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
A night in with the phone unplugged and all the doors locked so that no one in their crazy families can bother them. Then it’s pizza, beer and a movie. Did I mention the fact that absolutely no one would be popping in to bother them? Because that’s essential.
Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?
About Me:
1.) I took fencing lessons
2.) I have an unhealthy love for peanut butter
3.) I have skinny dipped on three continents

5.) A girlfriend and I once broke a toilet by dropping a shot put down it.

1.) It was originally called “Devil’s in the Details”
2.) Faith’s ex originally made another appearance in the story but I cut it during edits
3.) In one of the drafts Malachi ended up with Matt’s twin sister
4.) The nurse Tanya is based on my old boss from college
5.) This is for the entire series but every restaurant mentioned in these books actually does exist and I have eaten at them.
