Review : Stay With Me (With Me #1) by Elyssa Patrick (NA)

Book Blurb

New Adult/Contemporary Romance - recommended for ages 17 and up.

With one look, I’m his . . .

With one touch, he’s mine . . .

With one kiss, it changes everything between us . . .

I’ve been famous since I can remember. Singing, acting, dancing—I’ve done it all. The tabloids cover my every move, but I don’t want that anymore. I want to be normal, whatever that is.

When I leave Hollywood for college in Vermont, I’m on my own for the first time in my life. This is my chance to figure out who I am and what I want in life.

But it’s a lot harder than I expected. I can’t escape my image. Classes are difficult, and I’m struggling. And then there’s Caleb Fox.

Sexy, intriguing Caleb Fox.

Caleb is the one man who doesn’t want to use me. He breaks down my walls. He challenges me. He wants me. And I just don’t know if I can give him the same—or if he’ll stick around when he finds out my shameful secret that the tabloids haven’t managed to uncover.

Dating him is risky enough, but loving him could break me.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Hailey Bloom is an actress and singer. In fact she is very famous and has been for a majority of her life. Yet she has decided to walk away from her stardom and go to college. She is no longer interested in that life. All she wants is to be normal.

Since she has never been in a class before college will be a challenge but she is determined to do well. She wants to be just like any other student at Green College.

One night at a college party she feels overwhelmed by the crowd and needs a bit of fresh air. She goes outside on the deck and realizes that she isn’t alone. However the boy keeps his distance and gives her the space she needs. He offers his coat when she is cold and hides her from another boy who is searching for her. She is surprised for his help yet she doesn’t trust it.

Caleb knows who Hailey is but he doesn’t know her. She intrigues him and he wants to know more about the girl not the star. He initially tries to get to know her but Hailey is scared of being used so she refuses to be open to his gestures of friendship. However she decides that being lonely is worse and gives him a chance. There is an attraction between them and it grows. She fears that her deepest, darkest secret could make him hate her. So she swears to take it to her grave.

Unfortunately her mother doesn’t allow that to happen and Hailey’s new world that she is building and her past life come crashing into each other. She doesn’t know what will be left standing after the fallout settles.

The storyline was a good one and I liked the idea of Hailey’s character. She showed the dark side of Hollywood and was determined to walk away and do her own thing by going to college. I thought the relationship with her mother gave a different dynamic to the character. The reader was automatically drawn in and felt sympathy for her. However there were a few places in the story where she got too caught up in her worries and fears that she became annoying to me personally. Those areas of the story were almost a contradiction in what her character was trying to do.

I also thought that her language and actions pertaining to sex were a bit over the top for an eighteen year old that the author was trying to convey. It didn’t seem to fit. I did, however, love the relationship between Caleb and Hailey. It was sweet and they seem to be good for each other. Caleb was an excellent male character. He was sign worthy with his actions and understanding. The boys that Caleb lived with and hung out with gave a lot of comedic relief and were fun to read about. Their banter was authentic and made you laugh out loud.

However I do think the flow of the story could have been better in some places. So I would give it a 3 out of 5.
