When given the opportunity to flee, Claire drove away—a fateful decision which began a well laid plan.

Unbeknownst to either of them, there were others who saw past the perfect facade of Anthony Rawlings. There were others who saw the TRUTH. Conspiracy and unfulfilled promises result in an early prison release for Claire. Not just a release—a pardon. According to the law, her crime never happened!

Will it be that easy? Faced with freedom from her past—can Claire seize it? Can she build a new life, mend her broken spirit, become the woman she once was, and seek her own revenge? Or is it all a game? And does the game master have different plans?
How does Sophia Burke fit into the puzzle that is Tony and Claire? Will her presence affect the future of this well esteemed man? Can he dominate twice? Is that his goal?

When buried sins are discovered they threaten not only Tony and Claire’s future—but their very lives! Will the TRUTH be revealed in time?

Book #3 of the Consequences Series:

There were still lessons to learn and consequences for the truth!
When Claire Nichols met Anthony Rawlings, she didn’t know they had a past, or that he had plans for her future. Over time, the role of teacher changed—games became reality—and domination turned to desire. Despite an insurmountable history, Claire and Tony found their way back to one another.

Just when they seemed to have it all—love, respect, and the promise of a family—the game master exposed the truth. Claire’s world once again spun out of control. Unwilling to allow her child to suffer the consequences of an old vendetta, Claire fled...

At one time, Claire was held captive in an opulent mansion—then her incarceration was a cell inside a state penitentiary. Was her new prison—a tropical island—truly less lonely? Perhaps that was the game master’s plan, all along?

Who will save Claire from her oldest nightmare and her newest reality? Will it be Tony? Can he forgive her for leaving him—again? Harry? Will he utilize previously unknown connections to save the woman who infiltrates his thoughts? Maybe Phil? Will his devotion in keeping Claire and her child safe be rewarded?

As the cards are played—sins of the past, innocent victims, and truths are revealed. With compartmentalization no longer an option, is the reality too much? Could there be an even worse isolation?

With the game master dealing from a stacked deck, can this new high-stakes game possibly be won?

When it’s all over and their cards are on the table—SOME will discover their bets were too high—they have nothing left to lose—ALL will learn the crucial lesson—the most important rule—there are CONSEQUENCES for the TRUTH!

Aleatha Romig’s CONVICTED!

Toot's Review

Before I start my rant, I wanted to do some explaining first. It takes a lot to really piss me off with a book series. I can usually see a bright side to any book. I respect that an author puts a lot of time, energy, blood, sweat and tears into a book. With that being said, I have never ever given a book, let alone a series, a one star review but there always has to be a first.

I was initially planning on never putting out a formal review for this book series because I felt so passionately about the wrongness of this series that I couldn't see straight, let alone make a thoughtful argument on why I hated it so much but then I went to Goodreads and Amazon and saw how much people love this series, that I just couldn't bite my tongue anymore. So what I initially did was post my feelings on my personal FB page (see below)

Book 1

Me on FB: OMG, I reading a thriller that can in no way be considered a romance. It's really disturbing from a female POV. I honestly don't know if I can even recommend it because it has left me with a creepy, OMG feeling. Can you say abuse, kidnapping, and Stockholm syndrome.

*Another response from me after much prodding from friends*

Me again on FB: It's called Consequences by Aleatha Romig, the man basically sees a young bartender and likes her. He offers to pay her debts off, if she works for him. She agrees and then next thing she knows, she's been kidnapped, beaten beyond belief and then is methodically raped, mind and body. He says she never stipulated terms, so this is what he wants until her debt is paid. If she tries to escape or even question him, he beats her. Gratefully the author doesn't get into graphic detail, you just know whats coming. This is in no way a romance, it's a thriller that happens to be between a man and woman but it is freakin' hard to read. She ends up a mindless shell and eventually even agrees to marry him. He's turned her into his perfect Stepford wife because of the repeated abuse. There's 3 books and an alternate POV in the series. We'll see if I can stomach the others.

Book 2

Me on FB: OK so I think I'm about to give up on this series. I'm about half way through this series (there's 4 books total, this is #2) and I just can't stand it anymore! I don't think this has ever happened to me where I have hated the characters so much that I just don't give a flying "f" what happens. I can't believe people think crappy characters are good writing. If I have to hear about his eyes turning from brown to black because of his moods or her pulling a "Scarlett O'Hara" and just needing to sleep to escape her reality one more freakin' time I'm going to scream!!! Oh or how green her eyes are and it seems no man that crosses her path can not immediately fall in love with her. She's dumb as a brick for getting into these situations with the worst Alpha Male character I've ever come across. I don't care how much he is supposed to be redeemed in the end, if you beat, rape, drug and oh kidnap, mentally abuse her, and manipulate her, oh and then frame her for the attempted murder of you because you want to teach her a lesson, all in some twisted vendetta your family has against something her grandfather did........I DON'T LIKE YOU AND REFUSE TO FINISH YOUR STORY and if she's dumb enough to think you can change and goes back to you and you're supposed to become the hero, then her ass deserves you too!!! Sorry I had to rant.

So at this point, I was going to leave it alone after saying my peace on FB and not feeling like I did any damage except to my friends psyche but like any good reviewer/blogger I decided to finish the last book, Convicted. Nope I didn't rant on FB or even Goodreads but my poor husband did have to hear me vent. He finally said he'd had enough! I then thought I'd read some comments from other people to see if I was still in the minority but guess what, low and behold I came across more like-minded people.

But here's my non-FB thoughts on Book 3

Claire continues her passive aggressive view on life. She finally decides to take control of her life, only to then let the men surrounding her make the decisions and ultimately goes back to her oppressor claiming he deserves a second chance......REALLY!?! The story opens up with her in a mental ward in 2016 and the reader is slowly lead along by the bit, slowly learning WTH happened from the time of the last book to the prologue of Convicted. The author tries to explain why she's a mental case and that she might have been predisposed to it. The animosity between people who think Tony is the devil incarnate and Claire continues and the supposed mystery is finally, slowly and convolutedly unraveled. Honestly, this series is so long and lame that the whole thing is a total waste of time. I feel like I've lost brain cells reading this book. I'm sorry but when the supposed hero of the story has a laundry list of indiscretions including but not limited to the kidnapping, rape, incarceration, murder of multiple friends and family and more of his lady love, that I can't buy into the romance elements nor do I wish to. The mystery element is not original enough to hold the story together. Ultimately the heroine is vapid and the supposed hero is beyond reproach. It's boring, insipid and not worth the paper it's printed on.

1 out of 5
