Review : Rome (Marked Men #3) by Jay Crownover (CR)

Book Blurb & Info

Title: Rome (Marked Men #3)
Author: Jay Crownover
Genre: New Adult
Publication Date: January 7, 2014
Publisher: William Morrow an imprint of HarperCollins Publishing

Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.

Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Rome Archer is Rule’s older brother and he is back from being a soldier in Afghanistan. He can’t seem to get his footing in his new civilian life. Everyone is trying to give him time and understanding, but he isn’t getting any better. He is drowning his problems in a bottle and Cora has had enough. She refuses to let her friends get hurt by a guy who can’t get his life together or ask for help when he needs it. Cora helps provide some recognition for Rome and his behavior when she dumps beer over his head.

He heads to a new place to drown his sorrows and ends up at a biker’s bar. Little does he know that Cora is the catalyst that sends his life in a new direction. Rome now has someplace to feel needed while he figures out his head. Cora also decides to help him as he is family. They are both shocked to find themselves in a situation they weren’t looking for but it seems to work.

Rome tries hard to pull himself out of his nightmares and focus on the life he can have now. Of course, nothing ever goes smoothly and Rome has to fight for what he wants, including his life.

This is book three in the Marked Men series and I absolutely love this cast of characters. Cora is sassy and tells it like it is. She is one of my favorites and I’m glad to see her story. I think that Rome and Cora make a great pair. It was fun to read as their relationship evolved.

I also like how the author continues the story with all the previous characters present. I like reading all about them as the story continues. It’s like being a member of the group and the reader is fully invested in what happens to each character in every book. I give it a 5 out of 5 and recommend this book and the entire series to everyone.
