Title: Until You
Series: A Fall Away Novel, Book #1.5
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 10, 2013

Have you ever been so angry that hitting things felt good? Or so numb that you actually felt high? The past few years have been like that for me. Traveling between fury and indifference with no stops in between.

Some people hate me for it, while others are scared of me. But none of them can hurt me, because I don't care about anything or anyone.

Except Tatum.

I love her so much that I hate her. We used to be friends, but I found out that I couldn't trust her or anyone else.

So I hurt her. I pushed her away.

But I still need her. The sight of her centers me, and I can pool all of my anger into her. Engaging her, challenging her, bullying her...they are my food, my air, and the last part of me that feels anything human.

But she left. She went to France for a year, and came back a different girl.

Now, when I push, she pushes back.

***This novel contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Title: Bully
Series: A Fall Away Novel, Book #1
Author: Penelope Douglas
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 17, 2013

My name is Tate. He doesn't call me that, though. He would never refer to me so informally, if he referred to me at all. No, he'll barely even speak to me.

But he still won't leave me alone.

We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I've been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got more sadistic as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him.

But I'm done hiding from him now, and there's no way in hell I'll allow him to ruin my senior year. He might not have changed, but I have. It's time to fight back.

*This novel contains adult/mature young adult situations. It is only suitable for ages 18+ due to language, violence, and sexual situations.

**This book is the first in a series but can be read as a STAND ALONE. The next books will focus on side characters from this story.

Interview

Hi Penelope,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about your Fall Away series and your process for our budding authors as well as fans, which I am definitely among! So first off, Your newest book is part of the Fall Away Series . Let's talk about the series as a whole.

In your own words, what is the Fall Away Series about?

Fall Away is a term that means to “withdraw friendship or support”. The overall theme of the books is about lost love, lost friendship, and learning to trust when you come from an environment surrounded by people that have abandoned you. Tate lost her mom, Jared’s parents are “difficult”, and you will definitely see the dynamic in Madoc’s home in Rival.

How did you come up with the idea, title of the series and of the current book?

Nothing is ever easy. Never clean or tidy. Love is a surprise, a disappointment, and a freakin’ mess at times. I wanted to show that, but I also wanted to show how we repair broken bonds. Bully and Until You weren’t so much about bullying as they were about fixing what’s damaged.

Can you tell us about your new book in the series, Until You?

This is Bully through Jared’s point of view, but there is a lot of added material. People wanted to know why he is still mad after a year of separation from Tate, why he felt she needed to suffer. Well, I agreed and write his side. There is also an extended ending.

How does the new book, Until You, fit into the series?

It’s 1.5, a companion to Bully, but you will learn so much about the characters that it is an important part of the series and should be read.

How many books are planned for the series? 4

What was your favorite scene to write for your hero or heroine in Until You?

The scene where Tate broke into Jared’s room and when he…you knowJ Trying to describe doing that when I haven’t done that to someone was pretty cool!

What was the hardest scene to write for Until You?

The scenes with Jared’s dad. I didn’t like him, but now I want to bring him back in Jax’s book to give the Trent boys some closure.

*with a wink* Did anything memorable happen to you, that you wouldn't mind sharing, during the writing of this book?

I met some great authors (online)

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

I read a lot, and a story started developing in my head a couple of years ago. Eventually, I just had to get it out. I never thought I would make a living with this. I never thought Bully would get any notice. It’s only recently that I’ve been contemplating quitting my day job.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

My characters who want their story told, and the readers that keep encouraging me.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

First, I shower. Don’t laugh, it’s the only place where I can be left alone to think. I had a conversation between Madoc and Fallon in there the other day! Seriously, it’s where lots of my ideas happen. Then, I outline. Tweak the order that I want scenes to happen. Then I write, edit, edit, edit, edit, and then publish.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

Nope. Bully was my first.

What's next for you?

Finishing the school year, writing Rival and attending some kick-ass author events!

Is there anything you’d like to add before we get into the personal questions? Shoot.

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing stories, who is your favorite character and why?

Tate’s dad. He’s fun to write, because he’s a nice break from the angst. I love angst, but he’s no-nonsense.

If you had to pick an actor for your fav, whom would it be?

For my favortite character? Robert Redford, or my dad likes Kevin Costner for Tate’s dad.

Are there any of your stories that hold a special place in your heart?

I love Kelly Creagh’s Nevermore Series.

Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

About you.....

1. I have my tragus pierced.

2. I almost always wear black.

3. My tattoo on my calf is written in Sanskrit and says “For all humankind”, because I support space exploration militantly.

4. My favorite Christmas song is “Silver Bells.”

5. I would kill for English toffee.

About the book....

1. Almost all of my female characters have male or male sounding names: Tate, K.C., Jess, Devon, Fallon…

2. The original Bully had no sex.

3. The sex video mishap was my editor’s idea.

4. Until You is a title that was picked by the readers.

5. Some of the male names in the book are names of my students. I teach all boys, so the names were in my head.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!

  1. Loved this Q&A! It's always fun to be able to get into the head of an author and learn new things about a favorite series. Also fun to learn about the author herself :)
