Review : Suddenly Royal (Suddenly #1) by Nichole Chase (NA)

Book Blurb

Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.

Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.

While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Samantha Rousseau is a grad student and a wildlife biologist specializing in raptors. Royal donors are visiting the university and making it almost impossible for Sam to get done what she wants to get done. Everything is closed off and her annoyance grows. After her shift at the sanctuary for the raptors, she is met outside by an unknown man. He explains that the Duchess Rose Sverelle of Dollange would like her company for dinner. Samantha is shocked and then assumes it is for the center. She dresses up and goes to dinner with royalty.

Sam is shocked that it’s not the center the Duchess wants to talk about, but Samantha herself. The duchess explains that Sam is a member of an important family in her country and the rightful heir. Sam’s life is about to change if she accepts the waiting position that is hers if she chooses. She has a lot to think about and decisions to make.

Her life gets even crazier when the media gets a hold of her story and camps out on her doorstep. Prince Alex sends out reinforcements to help her with the press and getting her to school.

She decides to go to Lilaria and become the Duchess. Her life drastically changes even more than she could imagine. She is thrown into the life of a royal, the duties, the press, and the attention. Then there was Alex. He produced feelings in her that scared her to death. She was conflicted about the relationship she wanted and what was safe.

Her life was now crazy and she didn’t know if she was cut out for this. She knew eventually she would mess everything up. She wanted to be “just Sam” and she wasn’t sure she would ever be just herself again.

I loved this book. Samantha’s character was fabulous. She was blunt and open. Having someone like her dropped into the world of royalty was fun to watch. She had to be able to adapt without losing herself too much. I also loved reading about Alex and Sam dancing around each other. It was obvious how they felt but Sam was hesitant. She didn’t think herself good enough. That was her ultimate fear. This is a fairy tale that most women fantasize about and the author did justice to the whole idea. I would recommend this book at anyone. It was a great read.
I would give it a 5 out of 5
