Book Blurb

A chance encounter between a successful author and a billionaire owner of an underground BDSM club, leads to the most pivotal relationship of their lives…

Erika Walsh has carried a torch for Christopher Milton, heir to her father’s publishing empire for years. After one steamy make out session she begins to wonder if it might develop into something more. But when M. L. Crawford, better known as Max, her father’s publishing rival, seeks her out at a society event, she’s drawn to his magnetic charisma and powerful demeanor. Their verbal bantering and innuendo laced overtones stir feelings she never knew existed, and soon Erika is consumed with knowing the real man under Max’s restrained public façade.

Erika’s sweet nature and naivety excites Max to near madness. He wants to train her in the art of seduction and make her succumb to his every wish and command…as his perfect submissive. Yet, Christopher is determined to keep Erika from becoming the latest victim of Max’s sinister sexual hungers. He knows all too well what Max hides in his black soul and will stop at nothing to reveal all of Max’s secrets in order to protect the one thing he holds dear above all else- Erika.

Max’s dark desires scare yet arouse Erika, as he opens her eyes to a new bold world full of passion and ecstasy she never imagined until him. But the biggest question remains: Is Erika’s craving for Max just an illusion that transpires behind the walls of The Gate?

Book Excerpt

“Dance with me?” He held out his hand in an invitation. “We never did at the awards ceremony.”

“Hmm, a man who likes to dance? The mystery thickens.”

She slipped her fingers onto his palm, and he pulled her other hand around his neck. Wrapping his arm around her waist, he held her captive. Not once did he look away from her face and began crooning along with song.

Erika’s eyes widened. When he sang the section about making love, she licked her lips. “That sounds….”

“Sexy?”

“Hot.”

Chuckling, he drew her to him, not caring if she noticed his rigid cock. Her pupils enlarged, and her nostrils flared as she inhaled. He continued singing until he was lost in her gaze. When the song finished, it began again—he didn’t realize he’d set it to repeat.

“Max, I feel dizzy. Does that sound silly to you?”

He slid his palm up until it nestled near the side of her breast. “Not at all.”

“I-I don’t think it’s a good idea if I’m going to interview you—”

He pressed his lips to hers. She gasped, her mouth still open. He took the opportunity to lick the inside of her cheek. Her fingers dug into the back of his neck, the sting causing him to suck on her tongue.

She didn’t circle her tongue with his, just let him take over the kiss. With a growl, he clutched the back of her head, holding her in place. He grazed his thumb over her tight nipple, enjoying her squeak.

He broke off the kiss, nipping her chin and side of her throat. “I want to devour you, to possess you like no other man has.”

“I bet you say that to all your women.”

He stopped, framing her face in an immobile grip. Her hands grasped his wrists. Panting softly, she observed him. He took note that her nipples were rock hard. The slight scent of citrus combined with her arousal met his nose. She was excited. He wanted to cheer.

Interview

Hi KT,

Thank you so much for sitting down with Toot's for an interview. If you don't mind, I have some questions for you about the series and your process for our budding authors as well as fans, which I am definitely among!

So first off, Your newest book is part of the Dark Path Series. Let's talk about the series as a whole.

In your own words, what is the Dark Path Series about?

KT: Thanks, Toots for having me on your blog. The Dark Path series starts with The Gate, which is the name of a sex club that caters to those who enjoy the S&M lifestyle. The Gate is owned by Maxwell Crawford, a multi-millionaire media mogul, who likes kinky sex with some BDSM in the mix. He owns The Gate with his best friend, Catherine Wells, whose parents once owned The Gate. Max is looking for the perfect submissive to embrace his dark sexual side, and he thinks he finds it with Erika Walsh, an author whose father owns a publish company, which happens to be the same company Max wants to buy because Walsh Publications is in the red. In this mix is Christopher Milton, Erika’s long time crush and the man she wants to have a sexual relationship with. Chris and Max have a past and are enemies. Then there’s Bryan Westerfield, the recently turned twenty-one year old heir to a hotel corporation who’ s still a virgin (he’s waiting for the right woman to come along and sweep him off his feet ), and falls head long in love with Catherine, the older dominatrix.

The Gate starts a journey for these people where the sins of the past may destroy them all. While they try to find happiness and peace in their lives, Erika is torn between Max and Chris. Catherine also has to decide if she accepts Bryan or stays with her master, the mysterious and elusive Raymond who readers will meet in The Key, the second book in the series.

How did you come up with the idea, title of the series and of the current book?

KT: The Dark Path series started with a name- Maxwell Crawford. He popped into my head one day and I then created his character and the world he inhabits. Why not make him a handsome millionaire with an appreciation for the S&M lifestyle and his search for the woman who completes him, which may happens to be Erika? The title of the first book is called The Gate because of the sex club. The Gate is a very important part of the story. Everything begins because of The Gate.

How many books are planned for the series?

KT: There’s definitely four books planned, including a prequel at some point.

What was your favorite scene to write for your hero or heroine in The Gate?

KT: My favorite scene was the one where Catherine invites Bryan to watch her sexually torture a married couple for their wedding anniversary. She dares Bryan to watch without becoming too excited. If he wins, she’ll do whatever he wants. If he loses, she denies him.

What was the hardest scene to write for The Gate?

KT: The hardest scene to write was the one with Erika and Chris when Chris becomes very aggressive and wants to claim Erika as his own in the hopes Erika will accept him and turn away from Max. This scene can be interpreted many ways by readers. Some may become upset by what Chris does to Erika.

*with a wink* Did anything memorable happen to you, that you wouldn't mind sharing, during the writing of this book?

KT: Because of the amount of research I did, specifically regarding the BDSM culture, I’ve read and watched some interesting things that will stay with me for a very long time.

Writing.......

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated and what made you decide to pursue it as a career?

KT: I’ve always wanted to be a writer but thought I wasn’t good enough. But then when I started my own blog, I found my voice and the self confidence to write more fiction and then and publish it. If not for blogging and my fellow bloggers, I really don’t think I would be where I am now.

What inspires you to put the pen to paper or fingers to the keyboard?

KT: I have so many ideas in my head rolling around I need to get down on paper. If not, the characters I created in my head haunt me and won’t let me sleep until I tell their story.

What are some of the elements in/of your writing process?

KT: I’m a plotter. I have to write some sort of outline and come up with most of my characters’ names before I start writing the story. I write the best in the early morning when it’s still pitch black and the sun is still sleeping.

Have you released anything under a different pen name, and if so, is there any difference between them?

KT: So far I only have one pen name- KT Grant that all my work is published under.

What's next for you?

KT: Next year I’m publishing the majority of my work. I’ll have a contemporary romance novella out in the spring and The Key, the second book in the Dark Path series will be out before the summer.

Personal questions......

Now I know this is like asking you to choose between your own children, but out of all your amazing stories, who is your favorite character and why?

KT: I love all my characters equally, but the one who stands out the most is Xavier Marks, the hero from Xavier’s Loving Arms (http://ktgrnt.wordpress.com/2011/12/08/xaviers-loving-arms/). He’s my ideal man. Xavier is caring, has a supportive and loving family and is a tiger in bed *rowl*.

Are there any of your stories that hold a special place in your heart?

KT: Xavier’s Loving Arms holds a very special place in my heart. The heroine is recovering from an eating disorder and she’s trying to ignore the urge to binge and purge because of the stress in her life. I wrote Xavier’s Loving Arms and my heroine, Rebecca because of my own personal issues with food and my weight, and how woman, including men have to deal with the pressure to remain a specific weight or look a certain way based on the media and what they think is acceptable.

What was the last book you read and can you share any thoughts on it?

KT: I just finished Ayn Rand’s classic novel, The Fountainhead. It’s a very deep and entertaining book, but at the same time you want to strangle the characters because of their beliefs and at times head scratching actions.

Lastly, let's steal an idea from the magazines.....What 5 things do fans not know about you and 5 they don't know about the book?

5 things about me you may not know about:

I can read palms.

I have a bad caramel latte addiction.

Shows like The Walking Dead and Scandal are my crack.

I’m a proud Jersey girl, born and bred.

I still sleep with my cabbage patch doll I’ve had since I’ve been six years old.

5 things about The Gate you may not know:

If The Gate was ever lucky to be adapted for the big screen, I know which actors I want to play for each character.

Max is a combination of three well known actors.

The idea for the scene with Erika on stage with The Gate dancers, aka the ponyboys is because of Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty trilogy.

My first visit to New Orleans in the summer of 2012 influenced me to write The Gate.

Max Crawford and Christopher Milton’s first and last initials being identical to one another but reversed wasn’t planned at all and is a coincidence on my part.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for taking time to answer some questions. Congratulations on the new book and I can't wait for everyone to read it!
