Review : Hot Mess (Hostile Operations Team #1.5) by Lynn Raye Harris (CR)

Book Blurb

English professor Dr. Georgeanne Hayes has a problem. Her star pupil, an Army sergeant who works in a Top Secret government program, is missing—and someone tried to push her in front of a train last night.

Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight is used to looking out for Georgie. When they were kids, she was just his best friend’s baby sister. But Georgie’s not a baby anymore and Sam is getting some very male—and very dirty—thoughts about the girl he knows he can never have.

When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.

Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Georgeanne Hayes is from an affluent family in Texas. She is living in DC teaching English to military college student. She is getting over a divorce and moving on with her life. One of her students stops coming to class. He is a good student and has actually had coffee with her during her office hours to discuss class. She thinks of him as a nice guy and worries when he disappears without telling her he won’t be there. She calls the military office to find out more but hits a brick wall. An attempt is made on her life one night when she is pushed in front of the metro train. Then a strange man sits with her at her table as she drinks coffee, threatening her. When she gets home from that scary ordeal, she finds her back door opened and her house broken into. She immediately calls Sam McKnight.

Sam is the best friend of her older brother, Rick. He just returned to DC from being deployed to Afganistan. Rick sent him to check up on Georgeanne. He is nervous to see her. The last time he saw her was six years ago at her wedding. He knew how she felt about him growing up, but she was off limits in his eyes. He is also a new member of the HOT team, a secret strike team for the government.

So when Georgeanne calls him to help her he comes quickly to her aid. Unfortunately she is in more trouble than she realizes when his team gets called into the case. Terrorists are at the center of the case and her student dragged her right into the middle. Sam has to protect her as he fights his attraction to her. It will prove difficult and he is trying to do the right thing. It’s what she deserves.

This was novella in the HOT series. It was a fun, fast read. Even though it was short, the fact that they had a history and the chemistry never went away, made it believable that they fell for each other so fast. There had always been this sexual tension between them. The end dealing with the terrorists was a little anticlimactic as Georgeanne didn’t have go through with the plan to help HOT catch them. The ending between Georgeanne and Sam was hot and worth it.

I give it a 4 out of 5
