Review : Accidentally in Love with...A God? (Accidentally Yours #1) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff (PNR)

Book Blurb

Twenty-two-year-old Emma Keane has a secret friend. He’s powerful, mysterious, and devastatingly handsome. In her dreams, anyway.

In real life, he’s an enigma. Maybe just a teensie jealous. Definitely overbearing. He’s also a voice only she can hear.

So who or what is he? He won’t say. But if she wants to be free, to be normal, Emma will have to trek to the jungles once ruled by the Mayans and find the forgotten ruin holding the answers.

However, the ruthless deity she’s about to unknowingly unleash on the modern world might not be so easily extracted from her life. Bottom line, he’s got enemies, and now, so does she.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Emma has grown up with this male voice in her head and she thinks she is crazy. Little does she know her world is about to be turned upside down. The voice is the Mayan god of death and war, Votan. He has been trapped for seventy years in a cenote in Mexico. She has been his link to the outside world. He has tried to prepare her to release him when the time came.

After being hit by a taxi and almost dying, Emma finds herself on her way to Mexico to release Guy (Votan) from his prison. She is on a mission, to get him out of her head and to find out what happened to her missing grandmother.

Surviving the ordeal of releasing Guy, leaves Emma with more questions than answers. He whisks her away to his compound in Italy to keep her safe. The Maaskab priests are after her. She is a payal or demigoddess. The Maaskab priests want her for some sinister reason that Guy won’t tell her about. He infuriates her by keeping things from her and treating her like a child. Of course her attraction to him is not helping either. On top of her situation, she not allowed to contact her parents to ensure them she is safe. She feels like a prisoner and her irritations continue to grow.

She befriends one of her guards and member of the Uchben, Tommasco. The Uchben are an army of human warriors that pledged to serve the Mayan gods. Guy is extremely jealous of the friendship developing between Emma and Tommasco. He gives her mixed signals and infuriates her more. She breaks the bond that allows Guy in her head. The voices have stopped but she feels empty.

Things start heating up when the other Mayan gods are trapped and need to be released, Guy gets trapped for the second time, and a major betrayal is committed. Emma must figure out who to trust and what to do to keep herself alive. She is only human.

I liked this book. It isn’t the first I’ve read from this author. I will say that it isn’t my favorite from this series. Emma really got on my nerves with the constant tantrums she threw. She was a very childish character. However, I really liked the storyline and the twists and turns that the reader went through to get to the end. There were a bit of suspicions thrown in and surprises at the end. I was pretty hooked. I like the author’s creation of the Mayan gods and their quirky personalities. In fact some I think are down right crazy. It makes for some funny situations.
I give this a 4 out of 5 rating
