Toot`s Review (contains spoilers)
Laurel K Hamilton's new novella Dancing is a new addition to the wildly popular world of Anita Blake. Dancing is a very quick read revolving around a BBQ party thrown by one one of Anita's original coworkers, Zebrowki and his wife Katie. Katie has invited Anita, Micah, Nathaniel and little Matthew is in tow as well. Its all very normal and domestic, just another day in the life or so we think? Well, actually it is. I'm a huge Anita Blake fan and no one write erotic\pnr like Laurell but although I loved the quick snap shot of everyday life for these 4 main characters, I found the novella a bit preachy and basically it was more filler then anything else. It rehashes how pretty Nathaniel is, how narrow minded people can be if they don't understand her particular tastes, goes over the repercussions of being an exotic dancer and the stigma attached to the profession. The novella tries to show the flip side of the relationship with the woman (Anita) being in the male role with women ogling Nathaniel and rumors running rampant about him sleeping with clients. Another lesson Laurell tries to get across is that its OK for boys to take dance. Little Matthew is bullied at the party by another kid because he dances but like any good mother hen *wink*, Nathaniel takes up for him and shows the group that dancing boys get all the girls *big eye roll*. Any who, as an Anita Blake fan, I gobble anything up that Laurell puts out but I'm not sure this was worth the $2.99 I paid on amazon for it. I think it would have been better as a deleted scene in a special edition or a "thank you" to her fans for 20 years, maybe posted on her site. Honestly, there is no real action, its just a 'moral of the story' scene with a fun ending but I honestly think it's not worth the $2.99.
