ARC Review : Hollywood in Heels: A Small-Town Girl's Adventures in Tinseltown by Charity Gaye Finnestad (Memoir)

Book Blurb

Hollywood in Heels is a sexy, smart, shockingly honest and wickedly hilarious memoir of a young woman finding her way in a city where sex is the primary commodity and illusion the name of the game. Charity Gaye Finnestad is a small-town girl with big dreams: to go to Los Angeles and make it as a writer.

With only enough money to survive sixty days, she packs her bags, says goodbye to an unhappy marriage, and hits the road in search of her destiny. Struggling to pay the rent with occasional modeling jobs, Charity suddenly finds herself privy to a high-flying, fast-paced life--sipping champagne at exclusive parties with A-list celebrities in the Hollywood Hills by night, and shopping at the 99-Cent Store by day to stretch her tiny budget. She quickly discovers that in Hollywood, as with anywhere, it's your relationships that matter. Determined to be true to herself, she sets out to make lasting friendships and maybe even discover true love along the way.

Fearless and forthright, Charity delivers the dirt on the ups and downs of living in Tinsel Town. A modern day fairy tale in which the heroine rescues herself and then meets her Prince Charming, Hollywood in Heels is a rollicking fun read that teaches some very important lessons about life and love.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

This book was written in the author’s view of her life in Hollywood. It is absolutely hysterical. I found myself laughing out loud to the point of people staring at me as if I were crazy. The part about the rabbit poop was one of those such incidents. It occurs in the apartment she is staying in with her German. Yes that is what she calls her best friend in Hollywood.

She shares how she came to Hollywood looking to be discovered, instead she ended up becoming a model. The things she shares is shocking in some ways and not so much in others. Her sections of tinsel talk, where she takes things in simple English and explains what they mean in Hollywood, were another of my favorite parts.

The names she gives to the people she encounters or knows is very amusing, like no boundaries guy, not gay make-up guy, Double O Seven, Mr. Well-Read, Stunt Girl, and so on. It made it fun to read without tripping over real names. I thought it was hilarious to see how she labeled them all.

This book was a hoot to read. Charity goes in to detail how she moved, lived and tried to succeed in Hollywood. It was candid and funny. She reveals a lot of the behind the curtain stuff that happens that we normal non-acting types don’t know. She gives definitions and instructions. Absolutely hilarious and a fun read.

I give it a 4 out of 5
