As a dark conspiracy unfolds amid the breathtaking scenery of Declan's Cross, the race is on to stop a ruthless killer…and the stakes have never been more personal for Emma and Colin
Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Colin is friends with the new priest at home who is from Ireland. Many residents of Declan’s Cross know Father Finian Bracken and he seems to be a central link to both groups the Americans visiting and the Irish who live there. Colin and Emma are investigating, unofficially of course, the art theft and the murder.
The murder hits a bit close to home, when childhood friend of Colin’s, Julianne, is the one to discover the body.
Julianne was invited to Ireland by a woman who wanted to open an Ocean field station in Declan’s Cross. Julianne is an ocean biologist and jumped at the chance to intern there. She needed to get away from Rock Point and Andy Donovan. Colin’s brother broke her heart recently and she hated being so close to him. She needed space. So when the opportunity arrived, she jumped at it. Unfortunately the woman who invited her ended up dead before she could pick up Julianne from the airport.
Now they are trying to find out why the woman really was there, why she went to Maine, and why she invited Julianne in the first place. Speculation is running wild and there are many people who could be suspects. They just don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle and they are determined to figure things out.
I really liked this book. I loved the fact the setting was in Ireland, one of my favorite places. The mystery also kept me guessing. I like that I had no clue what was really going on the whole time just like the main characters. The author made you feel like you were a member of the team investigating the murder and the theft. It was fascinating to see the dynamics of the crimes and how the characters dealt with the information and relationships. If you like mysteries this is a good one. It has art theft, murder, past smuggling escapades and family secrets.
I give it a 4 out of 5
