Stig Wyvern is not what he seems. He is an ex-marine but he is also a dragon and older than he looks. He is entering his eight days of his mating cycle. He has this time every three years. His basement is ready to hold him during the nights. He needs to contain his beast and hide from his enemy during this vulnerable time. Just as he is locking up and getting ready to descend for the night, there is a knock at the door.

When he opens the door, he is shocked to see the sister of his best friend, Cora. She is special to him and he offered his support when she lost her brother. Cora is in trouble and Stig is the only person she has to turn to. Her brother left gambling debts when he died and Cora got herself into trouble trying to settle them. Her bakery was destroyed by arson and she ran.

Stig lets her stay, but needs to hide his secret. It is very difficult when his beast wants Cora. He connects with her in her dreams and during the day finds it harder to keep his distance. Cora has always had feelings for Stig. In fact she decides to entice him to be her lover while she is under his roof. Things heat up just as Cora stumbles onto the truth about Stig.

She is shocked at first but takes things rather well until certain changes happen to her and her fears take over. Then the loan sharks find her and they want their money. Things get dicey and Stig has to keep her safe. He also has to decide if keeping her as his mate is the right thing to do.

This was a novella in the dragon heat series. It was very hot and sexy, but pretty short. I would have loved for the author to really explore these characters in a full novel. They had a history and their relationship only took a day or two to bloom. I would have like to see some depth and just more to it.

I recommend this book to those who haven’t read any from the series. It is a short read that wets your appetite for more.
