ARC Review : Lost in Kakadu by Kendall Talbot (CR)

Book Blurb

An action adventure novel set in the Australian jungle where two unlikely people prove just how attractive opposites can be...

It’s pretentious socialite Abigail Mulholland’s worst nightmare when her plane crashes into an ancient Australian wilderness. Things go from bad to downright hellish when rescuers never come. As she battles to survive in an environment that’s as brutal as it is beautiful, Abigail finds herself also fighting her unlikely attraction to Mackenzie — another survivor, and a much younger man.

Mackenzie Steel is devastated by his partner’s death in the crash, the only person with whom he shared his painful past. Now, as he confronts his own demons, he finds he has a new battle on his hands: his growing feelings for Abigail, a woman who’s as frustratingly naïve as she is funny.

Fate brought them together, but they’ll need more than luck to escape Kakadu alive. Could the letters of a dead man hold the key to their survival?
Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Abigail is married to Spencer. She is a bit of a pampered wife and is wrapped up in her little social world. Spencer has a wandering eye and manipulates Abigail by tearing her down little by little. Her daughter prefers her father and has no real love for her.

Abigail is determined to go with Spencer on his latest adventure into the Kakadu forest. Her daughter is left behind with Spencer’s assistant and couldn't be happier.

Abigail is timid and a bit unsure. Spencer doesn't believe her when she overhears the pilot disagree with another man about fixing something. He thinks her over dramatic and tells her she is just hearing things. He, then, goes on to flirt with fellow female passengers right in front of his wife. He challenges her to do anything about it with a look. He is not a nice man. Then the trip takes a down turn when the plane starts having mechanical troubles. Abigail realizes she was right, but being right won’t help her now. The plane is going down. Spencer squeezes her hand and she hugs her knees. It crashes in the middle of the jungle known as Kakadu.

Most of the passengers die as does the pilot. Abigail survives but has no idea how or what to do next. She is reliant on the other surviving passengers and even fights them every step. She shouldn't be in this situation and doing these things. She believes that they will be rescued soon.

However, the longer they are there; she realizes that she has to change in order to survive. She travels a path of self change. She begins to she what type of person she is and doesn't like what she sees. Once she starts helping with her survival. She starts liking the woman she is becoming. The longer they are stranded gives her the chance to change completely. She has done things she never thought she would ever do. She is surviving anyway she needs. She has no idea what her life will be like when she finally leaves the jungle but she will be a better person for it.

This book started out a bit rough for me. I didn't like Abigail being so weak and allowing her husband to treat her the way he did. I hated her husband for being the jerk that he was and her daughter was a complete spoiled brat. I almost stopped reading before the story actually began. I am glad I stuck with it. The crash was definitely a turning point for Abigail and her survival, her metamorphosis. I really loved watching her evolve into this new stronger woman. I liked to see how she helped and what ideas they came up with to help in the survival. The author did a great job of pulling the reader into the crash site and included them as the characters try and survive.

I give this a 4 out of 5
