Review : The “What If” Guy by Brooke Moss (CR)

Book Blurb

What would you do if your "what if" guy showed up at the lowest point of your life?

(Autumn Cole clocked hers with an encyclopedia.)

After losing her job at a swanky Seattle art gallery and finding out her father has been hospitalized, single mother Autumn Cole reluctantly returns to her tiny hometown of Fairfield, Washington, to put the pieces of her life back together.

Her disgruntled twelve-year old son isn't thrilled about going from hip to hick, but Autumn's got it worse. She resumes her role as the daughter of the town drunk, promptly facing a crisis with her father that's been decades in the making.

Running into Henry Tobler, and nearly breaking his nose, is almost more than she can handle, but can rediscovering love-and herself-with her "what if" guy teach Autumn to forgive before it's too late?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

This was a great CR. Autumn is the main character who grew up in a small town in Washington. Her mother left her behind with her alcoholic father when she was a little girl. Autumn spent her childhood and adolescence dealing with her father’s drunkenness and her humiliation. She left Fairfield to attend college, never wanting to return. She met Henry when in college. She loved him dearly even though they only dated for two months. She left him after she finds out she is pregnant from the previous relationship she had. She felt she didn’t deserve him and ran away. She lived in Seattle with her son Elliot until she was forced to move back to Fairfield. She lost her job and had to move back in with her father. Fairfield is the last place she wants to be and dealing with her father. Her son Elliot is not thrilled to be there either. He knows he won’t fit in to the small town school. On Elliot’s first day of school Autumn and Elliot come face to face with his new history teacher, Henry! Autumn is in shock as is Henry. She still loves him and doesn’t know how to react around him. Autumn stumbles through her coming home. She tries to reconnect with her best friend Holly and her father when she finds his health is failing. She is confused about Henry. One minute he is kissing her and the next he is pushing her away. Autumn’s life has been full of changes and more are on the way. Will Henry be apart of them?

This was a sweet story. Sometimes I wanted to shake Autumn. She would be overwhelmed with her guilt and low self esteem. It would drive me crazy when she let her feelings rule her thoughts and refuse to listen to what was being said. I recommend this book to anyone who loves romance. It’s a wonderful story of lost and found love. It includes a story of coming home. It has it all that would entice a romantic at heart.

Definitely a 4 out of 5 books.
