Review : After Hours By Cara McKenna (Erotica)

Book Blurb
A dangerous infatuation with a rough and ready man…

Erin Coffey has been a nurse for years, but nothing’s prepared her for the physical and emotional demands of her new position. Needing to move closer to her dysfunctional family, she takes a dangerous job at Larkhaven Psychiatric Hospital, where she quickly learns that she needs protection—and she meets the strong, over-confident coworker who’s more than willing to provide it.
Kelly Robak is the type of guy that Erin has sworn she’d never get involved with. She’s seen firsthand, via her mess of a sister, what chaos guys like him can bring into a woman’s life. But she finds herself drawn to him anyway, even when he shows up at her door, not eager to take no for an answer.

What Erin finds even more shocking than Kelly’s indecent proposal is how much she enjoys submitting to his every command. But he can’t play the tough guy indefinitely. If they want to have more than just an affair, both will have to open up and reveal what they truly need.

Toot's Review
Cara does it again! She expertly weaves a story that gives the readers a snapshot of a real life romance and delivers some super sexy, super explosive hotness all the while. I know that I keep singing her praises but out of all the books I read, I don't think I have ever read anyone who tells stories quiet like Cara. Yes, her books fall under Erotica but honestly, I find that her stories are chalk full of more romance and originality then any other romance story I have read to date and oh boy are the sex scenes hot! What Cara does so wonderfully is give the reader an uncoventional glimpse into an uncoventional romance. None of her books have a tidy HEA bow on them. They leave the reader to use their imagination to decide how they would like the story to end.
In After Hours, we have two very strong characters who find themselves in the Mental Health field. When I first read that Cara was using this field for a romance, I was a little creeped out. I wasn't sure if this would bring about all those horror movies scenes about Mental Institutions and my mind kept screaming, OMG was she mixing horror with romance but I soon put my faith in one of my favorite authors and went with it and I am so glad I did. I have a feeling Cara knew all her readers would be thinking something along these same lines because she spends a lot of time getting the reader comfortable with the environment and I was so thankful she did. It really opened my eyes up to how the hospitals are currently run and quickly wiped away any 1940's horror movie-like notions. I found that the characters were also very at home as well in the facility and I couldn't see them falling in love anywhere else. What did get in the way was their damaged hearts and their longing to no be alone. There is instant chemistry between the two but like any real people, they have a hard time communicating their feelings, all the while trying to guess what the other is expecting, which then inevitably comes between them. If I haven't stressed it enough, give Cara a try if you want someone who writes real world romance, between real world characters, who happen to like unconventional sex.
