Toot's Review

Cinder is a futuristic twist on the old classic Cinderella fairytale. Set in the distant future, Cinder is a cyborg mechanic who's living with her step mother and step sisters. She has no memory of her childhood and can only remember from the time she came to live with her step family. She does odd jobs to help bring income into the family and has a little mechanic shop as well. She's gotten quiet a reputation for fixing androids and one day is approached by Prince Kai to fix one of his droids. The two become friends and there's definitely sparks but and it's a big BUT he doesn't know that she's part cyborg and possibly more.  In her time, cyborgs are absolutely despised and the future Emperor could not be caught with the likes of her. As the story goes on, we find out that Cinder is hiding more than just her Cyborg parts and could be the savior of everyone.

Besides the main story with Cinder, there's the Prince's story. He's caught in a political game of chess with the Lunar Queen. She's ruler of the Lunar race, whom are not living on earth (or so Earthin's think), and who's been on the verge of war with earth for centuries. The Queen has decided she wants to rule earth as well and will stop at nothing to get what she wants even if that means marrying the Prince, killing his father then killing him. The only one who can stop her is the rightful heir to the Lunar throne, the missing Lunar Princess. She allegedly was smuggle off the planet and has been in hiding ever since although everyone thinks she's just a myth, there are a select few whom know the truth.

Unlike the classic tale, so far, there is no HEA. This book series is based around Cinder as the heroin but other characters from classic fairytales are also making appearances, such as the next book in the series called Scarlet which is based off of Red Riding Hood. Scarlet plays a big part in Cinder's history. This book is basically a continuation of the Cinder story as a whole. Scarlet is a teen who's grandmother played a big part in hiding the infamous Lunar Princess and has now gone missing. Scarlet embarks on a journey to find her and rescue her. While sorting out the puzzle pieces, she comes across a handsome street fighter named Wolf who has agreed to help her locate her grandmother but can she trust him?

As the adventure continues, Wolf, Scarlet, Cinder and others all cross paths and eventually plot to help take down the evil Queen....and the story continues.

So what's my take on the books so far???? Well for a YA, I actually enjoyed to series although I'd probably suggest waiting till the rest of the books come out, if you can wait that long. I finished both Cinder and Scarlet and so far, the story is only getting started. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed them, the characters are strong, the story is unique and well written but it's only half way through the entire story, so if you want to read only half a story, then go for it but if you want the story as a whole, wait.  Also remember that these are YA stories, so even though there are sparks between the couples, don't expect too much romance. The most you get is a few kisses and innocent petting. I'd probably recommend these for a mature 14 year old and up. There are some scenes that were hard to read, i.e. torture, disease, missing limbs and attempted rape but for the most part it wasn't bad. Definitely a series I will continue to read and of course review.

4 out of 5 books
