Dark Storm by Christine Feehan (PNR)

Blurb from Christine Feehan's site:

Dark StormA DARK STORM IS ON THE HORIZON...

Return to Christine Feehan's "steamy and dreamy" (Publishers Weekly) world of her New York Times bestselling Carpathian novels as roiling passions collide in a perfect storm of dangerous desire that only a precious few can hope to outrun...

Awakening after all this time in a world of absolute darkness and oppressive heat, Dax wonders in how many ways the world above must have changed. But it is how he has changed that fills him with dread and loathing. Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in South America, Dax fears that he has become the full-fledged abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries.

But there are some things that never change.

His name is Mitro, the vampire Dax had hunted all these long centuries. Once at the side of the prince of the Carpathian people he is the epitome of everything malevolent, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man -- and beast. Even his friends and family weren't safe from Mitro's bloodlust. Neither was Mitro's lifemate, Arabejila, an extraordinary woman with extraordinary gifts.

But now that Dax has re-emerged, so too has Mitro. The ultimate battle between good and evil has been re-engaged. Between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun -- one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

So now for my review.....
I honestly wasn't sure how I'd like this book. I absolutely love Christine Feehan but I'm not a huge fan of her Dark series although I continue to read it, don't ask. Curiously I found myself actually liking this one a lot more then I thought I would. Right from the start, you have tons of action going on. I'm not sure if I'd recommend the audio book though, that's what I did and the readers are not that enthusiastic and having two people read from different chapters is a bit confusing. I think having a male and female reading a book works best if it's done like an old radio play verses just having each read a few chapters. It kinda takes you out of the moment when you switch between readers. Anywho, back to the book, I found Dax, our hero, very romantic and not at all like some of her earlier book heroes. He's definitely more what we think of as the Alpha male with a heart of gold. Definitely a guy I can read more about. As for Riley, I didn't really connect much with her character as much and found her a bit wishy-washy. One minute she's the total heroine that we love, plowing into a sea of monkeys or offering to sacrifice herself to save everyone from a volcano and then next she's too scared to go into a cabin full of possibly dead peeps. I definitely think the book had some consistency problems or maybe it was editing? I'm not sure but it just didn't seem to flow very well but all in all I think fans of the series will be happy with the addition to the Dark series.
