Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Illarion is
a dragon shifter. He is invited to take
the princess as his mate, yet has no desire to have one. He sneaks into the castle in human form. In fact, Edilyn helps get him past the guards
that refuse to let him in at first viewing him as a homeless vagrant.
Edilyn has
her own agenda. She wants to prove
herself competent as a warrior. Illarion
finds her interesting and is drawn to her.
He rescues her as things get crazy.
Unfortunately she has a brother with issues with Morgana. His dragonstone is stolen and Edilyn is
forced to choose between her dragon and her family. Illarion refuses to make her choose and
decides to help her instead. They grow
closer and even go through the mating process until their enemies catch up with
them. They are sent into another realm
where the magic negates their mating marks.
They live and fight together until Illarion loses her. His life is forever changed as he loses his will
to live. He is later found by Cagedan
and Thorn and brought back to his brother Max.
He is thrust into another war with Apollo. He must make the ultimate sacrifice to save
the one thing he loves most.
I love this
series. Illarion is such a tortured
soul. The dragons have had a difficult
time in their lives. It is nice to see them thrive. Illarion finally finds happiness only to lose
it. The reader sees his decline after
his heart is completely broken. His
reunion with his family is bitter sweet.
He is happy to see them but still lost without Edilyn.
The author
brings you into the middle of Max’s story but tells the same events according
to Illarion’s point of view. I liked how he supports Max until Edilyn enters
the picture. However I felt the author
just plucked her in the story. I didn’t
understand where she came from and how Apollo got her. It was a bit confusing. I felt the author didn’t give enough
information considering what she built through the rest of the story. I felt
the ending was a bit rushed.
It was nice
to learn his story. You see him in Max’s
story but not much is revealed about him.
Now after his story is told, you understand more about what he
does. I give it a 4 out of 5.
