Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Sadie hasn’t felt like herself lately.  She is hit with these bouts of sadness out of nowhere.  During one such time, she takes off to the beach.  She longs for the quiet, calming effect of the waves.  Unfortunately, she almost drowns after falling from a rock.  A strange boy saves her.  She is drawn to him and can’t stop thinking about him.  She knows nothing about him.
She tries to forget him and get back to her life.  That is easier said than done.  She accepted a date with Nick to spend the day at Disneyland.  Her best friend Heather is acting weird.  Sadie can’t tell what is really going on.  Plus she can’t forget the mysterious boy.
Rayne is that mysterious boy and he has a job to do, keep Sadie safe.  He has already broken a rule of the water keepers by showing himself to her.  He needs to keep his distance.  He tries but when Sadie almost dies, he uses more water to heal her and their bond grows deeper.  He discovers he can’t stop thinking about her.  Yet he is determined to keep his oath.
Sadie’s feelings for Rayne grow.  She knows she is falling for him.  However when he tells her the feelings they have is caused by the water, she is devastated.  She tries to distance herself but finds it impossible.  She is hurt and confused.  Then she comes face to face with danger as the man with black eyes kidnaps her.  Rayne comes for her and tells her more.  She is shocked about what she learns.  Her mother and her memories seem to make her situation real.  Rayne knows more about Sadie then he lets on.  More secrets are revealed as Rayne meets with his boss.
This book had an interesting storyline.  I liked the special types of people that exist including Rayne and the other water keepers.  The beginning is a bit mysterious and Rayne makes an appearance.  Unfortunately I don’t like how he has to hide.  Then his feelings seem to be hot and cold.  I feel sorry for Sadie.  She spends a lot of the story hurt and confused.  Then she is falling in love with Rayne.  It is a yo-yo of emotions that the author throws at the reader.

There is a bit of confusion as to why Sadie is a target.  She is a pawn but the reader doesn’t know until the end.  A lot comes together at the end to set the stage for the next book.  I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I felt I didn’t get enough to fully understand the situation.  Rayne really made things worse in the long run.  So he wasn’t my favorite character.  In fact Sadie was a bit childish at times which turned off my sympathy for her.  This book was an alright story.  I hope it gets better as it goes along.  I give it a 3 out of 5.
