Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Eliza May was brutally murdered and has the chance to regain her body back. Adam who is in charge of GIM has given her a choice. She accepts the chance to join GIM thinking she will be recruiting reluctant souls. However she is surprised to find herself chained to Adam’s side. Adam has his own reasons for wanting Eliza close to him. He is not happy in the least to rely on her but he’s tired of his curse and only wants peace.

Eliza escapes Adam and ends up in the arms of Mab, her Fae aunt. As Eliza thinks she is being accepted in to her Fae family, yet things don’t seem right. When she finds Adam in the basement chained after being tortured, Eliza is confused. She believes Adam is a demon and doesn’t want to believe a word he says, but his words raise questions as she starts to really pay attention to what is going on around her.

After coming face to face with Mellan, the man she fled Boston from, she decides that Adam is her only chance of escape. Once she enlists his help, she hopes to never come back. Unfortunately Adam wants her for a month and the reason he gives shocks Eliza.

They flee and go into hiding but Mellon’s spies always find them. When confronted with a fae assassin, Eliza unknowingly shares her deepest secrets. Adam’s shock and knowledge change everything.

This book started out in a confusing way. Eliza was murdered, then Adam came and she agreed to stay with him. It jumps forward and Eliza is now staying with Mab. I had no idea what happened or how she got there. So as I continued to read nothing really made sense. I couldn’t get into the story as a result.

Eliza was not a favored character. She annoyed me. I would roll my eyes as a result of her behavior and stubbornness. She did get a little better after she and Adam went into hiding. Her behavior was better the second half of the book. Once they escaped Mab and started working together seemed to be the turning point in the book. I started liking the story more after that. The idea was an interesting one and I liked the ending. I give it a 3 out of 5.
