Review: Chasing River (Burying Water #3) by K.A. Tucker (NA)

Book Blurb

Armed with two years' worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin. Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn't let her die, but he also couldn't risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub. Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him. And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it's because he saved her life, or maybe it's because he's completely different from everything she's left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn't the kind of guy she'd want to catch.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Amber Welles has just arrived in Dublin. She is late for a tour and cuts across the park. Just as she reaches an oak tree surrounded by blue tape, a man runs toward her knocking her down just as a bomb goes off.

River Delaney couldn’t let the young woman get hurt from his brother’s actions. He searches her body to make sure she is unhurt then runs from the scene.

Amber is shocked at what happened and tempted to go home. However she decides to stick things out and actually finds the man who saved her life. She is instantly drawn to him and decides she might be willing to cross number one off her travel bucket list. Of course she isn’t that type of girl and River is fine with that. In fact he likes her a lot and continues getting to know her.

Things get crazy and dangerous when River’s family pub is destroyed because of his older brother’s actions. Amber is caught in the middle. She has feelings for River but knows it will never work. She lives in Oregon and he owns a pub in Dublin. Plus she has only known him for a short time, things can’t be serious, can they?

I really like this author. I’ve read several of her past books and couldn’t wait to read this one. I was instantly hooked because of the setting. It took place in Ireland which I love. I could place myself in those places because I’ve been there myself. It made the reading of this story even more of a positive experience. I loved everything about River and Rowen Delaney. Two young Irishmen running the family pub. They were funny, boisterous and fun to read about. The family issues presented in the story were tragic but unfortunately not uncommon.

However Amber was not my favorite character. She was too judgmental and sheltered. I like characters with more open minds and who don’t run from adversity. I didn’t like her reactions to River’s secrets. Her behavior was a bit surprising considering what her brother has done. She seemed to support her mean girlfriends and their actions better than River’s mistakes. So with that being said I loved the story and give it a 4 out of 5.
