Review: Fire in the Darkness (Darkness #2) by Stacey Marie Brown

Book Blurb

Fire In The Darkness, Book #2 in the Darkness Series
Paranormal Romance

***This is NOT a YA Series but a New Adult(17+). Sexual Content and Language.***

It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry.

And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day.

Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light.

Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with?

No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Ember has been on her own for a month. She is hiding from the queen and her guards. She is feeling so much guilt when she looks around Seattle and the people. She narrowly escapes the guards but learns she has a bounty on her head. Eli and the Dark Dwellers find her and take her to their compound. It seems to be the only safe place for her at the moment.

She is so angry and hurt. Everyone wants to use her for something and she has no one she can trust. Eli pretended to care for her and she knows she is truly on her own. She has to save her stepfather, Mark. However something is happening to Ember. She doesn’t feel the same and something has changed. Owen does blood tests on her and shocks her with news that she is changing. Into what seems to be the question.

Then her nightmare gets worse when Lorcan kidnaps her friends. He wants her and they are insurance. When Samantha kills one and Lorcan takes the rest to the otherworld, Ember loses it. She leaves the safety of the Dark Dwellers blaming them. She wants to let go of everything. Unfortunately her life changes drastically again when she is found by the Unseelie King. It seems she will forever be used by others.

I really like this series. The storyline is intriguing. You don’t know who Ember can trust. Everyone wants her for their own gain. The author keeps you guessing at what is going to happen next. The author has created an intricate story layered with so much going on but it doesn’t overwhelm the story. Shocking revelations are thrown in to keep the reader off balance. There are a lot of surprises in this book. They are needed to advance the story but shocked me all the same. I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens.

I love how Ember is changing. She is one of a kind. Her powers are growing and she is a very strong female character. I have become invested and want to see her do what she needs to do plus get her happy ending. I give this book a 4 out of 5.
