Review: Blushing (The Brightside #2) by Katie Delahanty (NA)

Book Blurb

My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Engaged.

When Berkeley proposed I thought we’d live happily ever after—we’d plan our wedding and he’d tour with the Brightside while I continued designing lingerie. But instead he dropped a bombshell that turned my life upside down: he’s set to star in a movie with, who else, his gorgeous ex, Christina Carlton. And what’s more? I’ve been erased from the public eye. All anyone can talk about is #Berkstina.

Berkeley wants me to work on set as a costume designer—a dream come true—but there’s a catch; we have to keep our relationship secret. I’m okay with not being photographed, but the sneaking around, the lies, the love scenes; it’s not how I imagined our engagement. I know Berkeley is passionate and driven, but he has so much going on—I don’t know if we can take it. I’m starting to wonder how well I know him.

I love him, but am I ready to drop everything and decide the rest of my life? To become Olivia Dalton?

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Olivia Bloom said yes to Berkeley Dalton and is now trying to wrap her head around being his fiancé. He is signed on to take a break from his band to star in a movie with his ex-girlfriend Christina. Christina caused so much chaos a short while ago that almost broke them apart.

Now she is on set working in the costume department and has to keep her relationship with Berkeley a secret. They have to see each other in secret. When the possibility of the secret getting out is a reality they are kept from each other. Olivia is unsure of things as Berkeley seems to be pulling away. She doesn’t know what to do and her insecurities threaten to destroy everything. She has to decide what is important as others try to sabotage the relationship she and Berkeley have worked so hard to build.

I read the first story introducing Olivia to Berkeley. It was fun to read how they came together. Now this book is part two where Liv and Berkeley are engaged and have to fight against the world of Hollywood. His publicist is the one calling the shots and she is horrible. I hated her character from the beginning. I’m not sure whose side she is on, her own apparently. The reader feels for Liv. She is thrust into this world with no real support. She handles it well at first. Then she lets her insecurities get to her. I started losing respect for her at that point. I don’t like weak female characters. I was glad when she finally figured out what she wanted and that she was going to fight to get it. It was finally a “you go girl’ moment.

The ending was awesome and she has decided to go in a different direction for her career. The struggle added to the plot but the ending was the best. I give it a 4 out of 5.
