Toot's Review by
Christine’s father got a promotion at work and her parents are moving to Texas. She has a job at the local library and is able to stay the summer living with her friend Daria. She is about to start her senior year in high school and doesn’t want to leave her friends. She is determined to find a way to stay.
One morning as she enters work she is introduced to the new employee, Gabriel. He is quiet but has beautiful eyes and Christine can’t get them out of her head. She is instantly drawn to him as he is to her. Something is different about him, but he stands up to her with a rude customer and she thinks he is sweet. Gabriel is drawn to Christine’s inter light and he is compelled to share his stories with her. So he starts leaving his short stories for Christine to read. She is intrigued and sees he has a talent for writing. Her feelings for him grow.
Then to both of their shock, she is pulled into his other world. The dream world is a place Gabriel gets pulled into. He doesn’t know why and he can’t control it. His guilt is heavy and he knows Christine would be better off without him. He can’t let her go though. Her light is what is grounding him in reality. He needs her to keep himself sane. Unfortunately in order to keep her in his life, he pulls her more into the chaos of his life and Christine must make a huge decision about Gabriel and her future.
This book had an interesting plot. However, there were a few places where I was a bit confused as to what was really happening. This book could have been longer to include more information so the confusion could have been avoided.
I did like the combination of Christine and Gabriel together. The partnership that they formed was sweet and they had each other’s backs when needed. I did not like the addition of Leo as a possible love interest. I prefer Gabriel even with the baggage he comes with.
The ending of this book leaves it open for the next one. I realize that the story continues, but I’m not sure I like the direction it is going at the moment. I will continue to read to see what happens.
I would give this one a 3 out of 5
