Book Blurb
What happened between then and now is a mystery Lexie is afraid to explore. Just one lie uncovered from her past can cause the house of cards she’s so carefully constructed to come crashing down around her. And Dalton is the key to that past.
She doesn’t need her grandmother’s warnings to convince her that Dalton means trouble. But the bond they shared as kids seems to have only gotten stronger, transforming into something wonderful and powerful.
When Dalton opens up about the intervening years and what they mean for his future, Lexie is determined not to let him get away a second time.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
Lexie lives
with her grandmother. Her mother left
and her father is in prison. Lexie hates
her reality. She has become a habitual
liar to hide who she really is.
The worst
day for her life happened five years ago when her father was arrested. She witnessed so much horrific things in
those few moments. Dalton had come to
visit that day. He was hurt as she
watched. She hasn’t seen him since but
thinks about him everyday.
One day she
comes face to face with him in the school hallway. She is completely shocked. The world she built is full of the lies she
tells. He knows the truth. She fears her life will fall around her.
She is also
drawn to Dalton. There is this instant
connection that has never gone away. However
she isn’t allowed to see him. She tries her
hardest to stay away. Knowing how
impossible it is she decides to only be friends.
Dalton has
his own issues and secrets. He wants to
have a new start in this school. He
doesn’t expect to see Lexie. He has
thought of her constantly since that day and he wants her desperately to be in
his life. Unfortunately it isn’t that
easy.
I loved this
book. The first time these characters
come together ends up tragic. Lexie is
such a messed up girl. She is relatively
good except for her lying. I like how
the author makes it her coping mechanism.
She also has friends but keeps herself closed off from everyone. She also has a fear of being abandoned. The author has given her so much to deal
with. Her fear and guilt just radiate
off the page.
The moment
she sees Dalton again is picture perfect.
The reader can just picture her shock and how her jaw hits the
floor. I could just see the whole scene
in my head.
The way
these two characters come together despite the obstacles is sweet. They fight for each other. Their relationship is hard and the issues
they have to deal with shows the reader how love is not always perfect. Dalton’s health is an issue and I was
saddened as the story progressed. It
really leaves you affected. I give this
story a 4 out of 5.
