Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala
In this new Shadow Falls story Miranda Kane has to compete in the spell competition and she is not thrilled. She considers herself a screw up and hates humiliating herself in front of a whole audience of people besides she never can make her mother happy. Of course when Miranda finds out the top five get a trip to Paris, she becomes very interested. Her ex-boyfriend, Perry left for Paris after breaking her heart. She is now determined to win so she and her friends can go to Paris. Miranda wants Perry back.
However someone is going after the contestants. Two were already found dead. During Miranda’s turn in the competition, a large fireball appears threatening the audience. Burnett decides to take Miranda and the other contestants to Paris hoping to catch the person responsible. The trip wasn’t what Miranda planned. She isn’t allowed out without an escort and it seems Shawn is in charge of her safety.
Miranda’s feelings are confused. She is hurt when Perry doesn’t even try to contact her, then she remembers the crush she had on Shawn when she was younger. She has no idea what she is supposed to do let alone feel. Everything goes crazy when her father’s secrets come to light and Miranda’s life is threatened, her life changes forever.
The gang is back. The reader accompanies Miranda on an adventure to become High Priestess. The author stirs up a lot of issues that Miranda has to work through. She has parent issues, boy issues and mean girl issues. The secrets revealed were surprising. I wasn’t expecting it at all and neither was Miranda.
Miranda’s character was on the immature side. Her behavior at times came across as selfish and border line a tantrum. However the storyline was interesting. I wish I would have liked Miranda more as a character. I give it a 3 out of 5.
