Review: Hold on Tight (Sea Breeze #8) by Abbi Glines

Book Blurb

Six years ago, Dewayne Falco's life changed. He lost someone he never expected to lose. Resigned to punish himself for something he felt he could have prevented, he goes through life without getting too close to anyone.

What he didn't expect was for the girl across the street to move back home and remind him of what they both lost: Dewayne's younger brother Dustin. However, when a miniature version of Dustin opens the door to greet him, Dewayne realizes he might not have lost everything after all.

Sienna Roy loved Dustin Falco most of her life. He was the boy next door, the high school basketball star and her best friend. But when his life was cut short, she realized he left a part of himself behind.

Now, she's back in Sea Breeze, thankful to have a home for her and Dustin's son, but not sure if she can ever forgive the people across the street who abandoned her when she needed them the most — The Falcos.

Betrayal, lies, and forbidden attraction might end Dewayne and Sienna's story before it's even begun.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Sienna Roy lived in Sea Breeze, Alabama. She was in love with her childhood friend turned boyfriend Dustin Falco. Tragically she lost him when he wrapped his car around a tree one night after leaving a party. She was sent to live with her aunt when her parents learned she was pregnant. She had no intention of coming back to Sea Breeze. Her parents didn’t want her to keep her son and the Falcos didn’t seem to want to know him either.

Six years later she is moving back into her childhood home after her father died and her mother moved to Florida. She is determined to get on with her life and do her best to take care of her son. The first time she sees Dewayne, Dustin’s brother, she is angry. He doesn’t deserve to tell her anything she should do or doubt her parenting skills.

Dewayne is shocked to see Sienna and with a child no less. He questions a lot about her life and how she does things. He still feels strongly about protecting her. Then when the truth about Micah’s father comes out and what really happened, Dewayne and his family are shocked. They are extremely angry about how Sienna was treated by her parents and her aunt. Dewayne still has feelings for Sienna but he isn’t what she needs. He will be there for them both. However Sienna may have a different idea about what he was meant to be to her.

I like this author and the Sea Breeze series. This was not the first book in the series I’ve read. I truly love the characters. They have a lot of past knowledge of each other and their relationships are strong. They relate well with each other and make a connection to the reader.

Sienna’s story is realistic. I could see this happening in a real life setting. A teenage pregnancy, a drunk driving fatality, being disowned and lied to by your family is all part of the plot. The reader sides with her from the beginning. She was given a raw deal from everyone and you want her to succeed in everything she tries and deserves.

Dewayne and Sienna have loved each other since high school which they either didn’t realize or admit to. I love how the author made their paths cross again six years later. It was a fun read and I give it a 4 out of 5.
