Review: Waiting for April by Jaime Loren

Book Blurb

April Fletcher has died nineteen times... but she doesn't know it.

As far as April is concerned, she's just a normal seventeen-year-old, looking forward to spending spring break with her friends and going to college in the fall. April doesn't know she has never lived past her eighteenth birthday, nor does she realize that Scott Parker, her best friend, is actually her childhood sweetheart and fiancé from her very first life.

For nineteen-year-old Scott Parker, spending quality time with his soul mate has proved difficult ever since her tragic death in 1729. Since then he has lost her an additional eighteen times—each of her deaths more devastating than the last, and each of her births wiping the slate of her memory clean. Unable to save her but unwilling to give up, Scott has to hide the fact he's immortal—and will be until April confesses her love again.

But this time, things have changed. April has denied her feelings for him, is dating someone else, and with her eighteenth birthday fast approaching, their friendship is falling to pieces. Fearing their souls are irrevocably drifting apart, Scott must race against the clock to win her heart and save her life.

Or risk losing her forever.

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Scott Parker has watched April die nineteen times already and refuses to do it again. She has never made it to her eighteenth birthday. She has no clue what or who he really is to her. She keeps having these flashes but refuses to think of them as memories. When she meets an older woman who tells her about another girl named April, she starts to get a little uneasy. Then Scott saves her life by pushing her out of the path of an SUV.

After the accident April is confused. She starts putting things together but is completely shocked when she reads Scott’s journals. All the secrets come out about her life and what she is to Scott. Nothing will ever be the same and the clock is ticking to stop it from happening again.

I was interested in reading this book after reading the description. The idea of immortality and reincarnation is intriguing. I couldn’t wait to see the author’s take on the subjects explored in the storyline.

Unfortunately the book got off to a slow start. I couldn’t really get into the story or relate to the characters. April was clueless and Scott was brooding. The story finally got interesting when April learned the truth and they started working together to save her. The attempts on her life added some excitement and the mystery of who was trying to hurt her also added more to the second part.

Once you get to that part of the book, it’s hard to put down. The revelations are shocking. I couldn’t believe what happened and how it built up. Then came the ending and I hated it. Ugh! Beginning and ending were not wonderful but the middle was really good. I give this book a 3 out of 5.
