ARC Review: Hell or High Water (Deep Six #1) by Julie Ann Walker

Book Blurb

In a world on the brink...

Six men. One sunken Spanish galleon. Millions in gold and silver coins lying on the ocean floor. And a past that refuses to let the guys of Deep Six Salvage forget the Navy SEAL motto: the only easy day was yesterday...

There's more than one kind of treasure...

The nation's security has always been CIA agent Olivia Mortier's top priority. But a mission-gone-wrong has begun to make her wonder if there's more to life than risking hers.

And more than one secret at the bottom of the sea...

Only two things could make Leo Anderson abandon his hunt for the legendary lost ship, La Santa Christina, and return to the world of weapons and warfare he swore to leave behind: a capsule of enriched uranium, lost on the ocean floor, and a plea for assistance from the one woman he can't seem to forget...

Toot's Review by Stacy Sabala

Leo Anderson (The Lion) or L.T. is determined to locate and excavate the sunken ship the Santa Cristina. He and his SEAL team are officially retired and now civilians. They are prepping for the ultimate treasure hunt. He is hoping it will get Olivia Mortier out of his head. She has ruined all other women for him.

Unfortunately that is not to be. She arrives on his front step asking for his help. She needs to retrieve chemical weapons from the bottom of the ocean. She needs Leo to get them. The CIA will pay half a million dollars. Leo doesn’t want to get involved. It could get everyone killed, but they need the money to continue with their plans. They thought they left that life behind.

When they arrive they find a yacht on sight and attempt to make contact. Then all hell breaks loose. Leo and his team find themselves in a fight for their lives as terrorists try to get to the chemical weapons first.

I love the Black Knight Series from this author and was excited to read this book. It did not disappoint. The storyline is centered around another SEAL team that has left the Navy. They are trying to make a new life in retirement looking for treasure. Nothing like having a setting in Key West. The ocean and the beach are an excellent place for hot Alpha men and adventures. It should be fun to read as this group encounters what the author decides to throw at them.

The action included in this book is exciting and I find what SEAL teams do very fascinating. I liked reading how they worked together.

The only thing I didn’t truly like was Olivia. She was a CIA agent that is supposedly tough as nails. She didn’t come across as very brave to me. I love strong female main characters. In fact I usually don’t like stories that are missing that element. So I was disappointed when she wimped out after the extraction occurred. I did like the story a lot so I give it a 4 out of 5.
